Overdrive(?) + distorted amp

I wish to buy an Overdrive to boost the gain on my amps
In your opinion,
-what OD would be best for overdriving an amp for a Zakk Wylde-ish sound?
-and what would you use for a Steve Ray sound?
-what you think of the Boss OD20?

Stevie was rather fond of Ibanez Tube Screamers.
I tend to like those too.

the boss Od pedal is very good! Good sound. And the tone nob lets u tweak it to your likings.

Stevie is strat, fender combos (vibrolux etc...), and vintage tube screamer...I believe Zakk Wylde uses Marshalls, probably JCM 800s. Unfortunately most for the budget conscious, most players get most of their overdrive/crunch sound from their amps. The two tones you described are very different, and in Stevie's case that tone is a lifetime, holy grail type search for a lot of people. Altough, I think most guitarists spend the better part of a lifetime searching for a sound anyway.

Zakks' rig was always a Marshall JCM800 with a Boss SD-1 Super Overdirve in front of it. He's got a signature pedal out now but up until then, it was always a Marshall with an SD-1.
