AC97 3D Wavetable Sound
Nvidia TNT-2 M64 32MB AGP

this gets to my house tomorrow afternoon! ha.

AND already own the DELTA44

first off, will i have trouble with the Delta because of the "5.1AUDIO" on the mobo, or the "AC97 3D Wavetable Sound"?....just lookin for how to solve problems ahead of time.

second, overclock or not?

Your onboard (MOBO) sound can be disabled in the BIOS settings at startup, and then use your Delta. Overclocking is just your preference really, you could get some extra performance from your machine, just make sure your CPU fan works.

WHY WOULD YOU OVERCLOCK A 2.0ghz PROCESSOR???

XP processors aren't what they claim to be... i think actual speed is 1600-1700sumthing. AMD just wants to be competitive with Intel 2GhZ cpu's

<edit : oopz someone beat me to this reply>

Nevertheless, I don't think I ever feeled any difference with my AMD 1.4GhZ being clocked at 1400 or at 1550... could be me though.

Damn, DeadPoet, looks like I beat you by one minute, lol!

In my experience, overclocking is not worth the trouble. I've overclocked a P-120 to 133, a Celeron 300A to 450, and dual Celeron 366s to 550. In all of those there was a noticable performance increase (especially with the 366->550), but in all cases I had to use more cooling and system stability was compromised by varying degrees. That extra few hundred Mhz will almost be imperceivable and the first time your rig dies in the middle of a session, you'll be cursing yourself for even thinking about overclocking.

If you have an insatiable urge to overclock, overclock your video card.

If you do decide to overclock, most newer BIOS's give you the option to lock the PCI and AGP bus frequencies making them independent of the CPU and RAM. That way, if you raise the bus frequency, you won't be overclocking the PCI/AGP busses which don't really like to stray away from 33/66 respectively.

In a nutshell, I wouldn't bother overclocking it.

I'm with Elevate & Evil on this one. Overclocking really only makes sense to me when you are trying to stretch the life of an old processor. With a cpu like yours, it would be gross overkill. Like hunting ducks with surface-to-air missles.

It's just not worth the reliabilty hassles.
