just throwing this out there... what if you tried getting a 2'x2' piece of dense acoustic foam and use it to form a little semicircle around the mic itself... enclosing top, bottom & sides, just leaving a small opening for the diaphragm?? kind of like making a little sound room for the mic itself like a sphere with an opening attached to the mic stand. Don't actually know if this would work, but it wouldn't cost much to try

okay so I just went to the studio building forum and foam seems to be like a disease.... pretty much everyone says it's not good for anything except maybe padding a chair or something... there's some good info on the portable studio posts that you should check out recommending materials for LF noise & such like that... might help and most weren't too expensive
