Darrin,

How are you figuring that it causes more ambient noise?

Are you putting a mic in a room... listening to it at -10 and then switching to +4?

Velvet Elvis

I always hear that you should use +4 if you equipment supports it. I have the delta1010 so I am in good shape either way. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough about my question. All I really wanted to know was if the dmp3 was +4 or not. Question answered, thanks everone

ps
you guys crack me up

HangDawg...

soo.... we should have just said...

"YES.. if you plug it in with a balanced cable it automatically switches to +4 operation"

Dang.... that was EASY!

bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

sorry... its Thursday and my brain hurts :)

So Gidge gets a gold star for the accuracy and brevity of his earlier response.

And Darrin gets the "What the f_ _ _ ? ? ? ? ?" award. :D :D

Well said Chessrock :)

No offense Darrin... but you must realize by now that SOMEONE gets made fun of on every thread   :D

HangDawg...

"YES..

I did, back on page 2 But I have no clout.
( it was more fun when chess was picking on me)

Smokey,

If you want clout around here you need to change your name to something like smokusman, or SmokeBear or Smokey Gerst :)

Hehehehe....

Actually... we were all just having fun... The thread quickly turned into nothing to do with the original question (which as you stated, could have been a simple yes or no).

Velvet Elvis

You are my new hero! I swear I will put a velvet Elvis picture as the first and only decoration in my new studio.

Don't tell me this is going to turn in to one of those "threads that refuses to die."

. . . Kind of like that "ultimate preamp" thread started by Watyf in the mic forum. Or the really embarrassing celebrity thread I started a while back. :)

I have an idea: Why don't we just call them "Jason" threads, in honor of Jason from the Friday the 13th movies ?

Used in context: "Man, did you see that Jason that Smokepole started in the rack forum yet?"

"Yea man, it just WON'T DIE!"

Another term that I hope the christians will have a sense of humor about: We could call the threads that die out, but then get brought back to life after several weeks/months "Jesus" threads.

This one definitely has Jason potential.

Sweet!!!!!

Just make sure the picture is set to +4... I don't do any cheapo -10 crap in Velvet-land :D

Oh... I crack myself up.

Glad I could be of humor assistance at least :)

Velvet Elvis

Chess...

We have to keep the thread alive... we're finally in a thread were someone actually is listening to what we are saying!!!

Maybe it could be called the Rolling Stones Thread... old and haggered... but yet still kicking.

Yea, but be careful of all that unwanted accoustic noise you might get if you go with the +4 pic. :D Couldn't resist that one, Darrin.

Another term: For those threads that have several topics (plots) going on at once, but somehow connected . . .

"Pulp Fiction" threads.

I think we have the makings of a Jason and a Pulp Fiction going on here.

Oh yes... good point Chess...

Wouldn't want extra noise... maybe my picture needs to be mounted on cinderblock with resiliant channels... then two layers of drywall with a sheet of sound board.... all mounted free floating on neoprene pads...

That would be the proper way to display the king's picture.... and don't forget... NO RHEOSTATS on the picture lighting!

(Of course... never... ever... EVER should you hang my picture with anything other than Mogami, Belden, or Gepco picture wire! - star quad preferred!)

Of if you want to get ragged on alot, you could change it to "smokerock."

If you want to be despised, you could be "Father Smokeytime."

If you want to sell Quality Chinese-assembled mics, you could be: "Alan Smokeit."

And if you really want all the pros to fall over themselves to answer even your silly questions, you should change your name to "One smokin' hot bitch."

Oh man...

Chess must be like me... bored on a Thursday afternoon in the Midwest...

we are a witty bunch... maybe we should just go hop around to the various forums and start flaming people... telling them they have no idea what they are talking about :)

We could go read some old Alesis threads for inspiration.

I love Sonusman's posts.... He never holds anything back :) You always know EXACTLY what he thinks :)

And if you really want your picture to have that warm, "vintage" sound, I could just have it tube-mounted for you. I would of course make sure to use only a starved-plate designed Behringer soldering iron. I also be careful to use all-analog labor from the analog union.

Na. On second thought, I will just have it mounted inside the tube. I can even fill it with water and little fake snow flakes, so when you shake it, you get Velvet Elvis surrounded by a pretty winter snowskape.

Chess...

Don't forget to process it through the RNC, VNC, BNC, VHS, NBC, MTV and Alesis 3630 for maximum snow coverage...

You have no idea what the hell you're talking about, Velvet.

You don't know shit from a shingle, crap from shit or shit from shinola. :D :D :D

That was fun.

I'll meet you at the Alesis forum.

Actually Chess...

If you re-cap the shingle it has a great warm sound.... much much more true to the original signal than all that digital crap I'm sure you are using...

So *NOW* who doesn't know what they're talking about??

Besides... now that Numark owns the shingle company... they rock!

I feel like heading down to Radio Shack and buying myself a new high end vocal condensor!

HEY!!! looking at your PDF on your website... are those BEHRINGER mics you have micing your Ovation??
