These just keep getting stranger . . .

OK, here's this RUMBLE!

Based on this thread:

https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=254573

The question is, is she a great guitarist, or merely a pretty face? As usual, it will be decided by a RUMBLE! And the only rule of a RUMBLE! is that the winner must be decided by arguing!

Here's the track, loosely inspired by the title track from Pet Sounds (and a little bit borrowed from the album's other instrumental, "Let's Go Away for a While"):

Orianthi Pet Sounds Rumble

I didn't really try to follow the track at all; I wanted this to be my pet sounds--Brian Wilson put a lot of odd instruments together because he liked them, and I picked some that I like. We share a love of sleigh bells, but other than that I made some different choices. Sadly, I cut the didgeridoo track for the final mix; it just wasn't working.

I picked a simple harmonic part; I think you could play in many different keys over this one. Em, probably harmonic, or C# would be obvious, but Eb could work if you pushed it. I think A should work too. Sorry about the timing, the bass and git were one take no punches no edits, and I'm getting tired :o But the bells were set down first on a click track, so it's not too sloppy.

To play, just play any instrument(s) over the backing track, which you can cut/slice/dice/transpose any way you like.

Ready . . . GO!

PS My actual entry will be tomorrow night . . . I'm going to bed!

Orianthi Pet Sounds Rumble link goes to the Orianthi thread too,

I never said she's a great guitarist - she's a solid player with basic chops and clean execution. on that vid. I said she's young and someday she will be a great guitarist if she can ignore the assholes and keep it up. I don't care what gender or what she looks like.

but she is good looking (less the bad hair day) and I'll rumble for ya baby!!!

On the contrary, I think she needs to listen to assholes. I'd be willing to bet that if she's already getting paid and getting exposure, that's a feedback mechanism that will tend to encourage her to keep doing the same thing she's doing. Even at 18, most musicians will stay on the same path they are on.

Most popular musicians record their masterpiece by the time they are 25. Sure, lots of exceptions, but the first CD is usually the best. Take me, the stuff I recorded at 18 doesn't sound too much different than the above, except it was on a crap four-track :o

Apparently you strayed from the link path you had at 18:eek:.....there is no link to your Backing Track above....:D

There it is, not sure that I can do anything new or creative over this. I'll try but it kind of limits me to slower pentatonic runs and lots of vibrato.

I'd rather have the track that Orianthi jamed on!

I didn't see any proof of paycheck, just a brave young girl willing to jump on stage and jam at namm!

The track limits you? That seems unlikely. You've got a moderate tempo, 4/4 beat (with two measures of 2/4 in there, watch 'em!). There is purposely very little content in the hi-mids, right in wailing range. I don't understand the difficulty

Rumble backing tracks are normally very simple . . . except for perhaps the first rumble, that was a little different. People were befuddled by those tracks at first, but in the end there were some very good entries :)

I got a little something for a first entry, how long does it take for lightling mp3 to come up off the links this time of day? I uploaded twice, no links.

p.s. third time not the charm, anybody have a better (quick and simple) upload site. I don't want to use my nowhereradio site for this.

p.p.s. no suggestions? Ok, I'll put it on nowhere.

All right, the rumble is on!

I'll have mine up in another couple of hours, gotta get the kids in bed, and I'm assembling this one in pieces. I feel kinda bad about that, but I'm writing stuff I can't whip out too easily, and I picked this really dirty tone I'm digging :o

But I'll also post a link to an old rumble that I played straight through, one take, just for honesty, since the Orianthi clip was live improv . . .

Now we need a few more people in here . . . I've been tryin'! :(

Yeah, not much of a rumble.

I had fun with it, btw, it's a pretty good backing. just way out of my typical. The limiting part is the style, I can't really include classically influence licks, that I spend so much time learning, writing and practicing. they just don't work with it.

However. I do enjoy a good soulful style to, actually when I fully develope my sound, I should lay somewhere between this style and shred.

My first entry is also a strait through 1 take, think I restarted early twice, then just rolled with it.

Looking foward to your entry.

OK, smoke away :D:

Rumble Entry

I think this ended up semi-honest; each section opens with 20 seconds of rehearsed bits, but then the last 30 to close each section is pure improv.

I really like this track, I'm gonna put it on my upcoming surf CD, "The Sea Will Grant Each Man New Hope", tentatively scheduled for release . . . . maybe in 2015 :o

ha ha! that's funny, I wish I could play (better yet just pick up an) accordian so I could jam with that first part. your improv definately fits the "psycho-surf sound", you must like The Beach Boys and Beatles. btw, drugs are bad!!!!

I know you didn't call Orianthi a slut ho - er a lousy guitarist and throw down a challange with those skills.

I want a real entry.

naiant.com??? that you?

Since I was very young. Yeah, I was definitely thinking of Lennon's part from "The End" in the first section.

btw, drugs are bad!!!!

Haven't used them in years!

naiant.com??? that you?

Yep. Considering that I not only wrote, performed, and recorded my entire entry, but I also designed and built the mics and DI I used, I'm pretty happy with it :D

(I also handwound the guitar pickup)
