Oh, have you not used ebay before?

Originally it started out as an auction site, but nowadays it is also a marketplace for small traders. Tape decks and the like will usually be auctioned (i.e. the auction runs for 3-10 days and the highest bidder wins), accessories such as belts, cables etc will usually have a 'Buy It Now' button instead, and a time limit of a month or so. (Auctions may also have a 'Buy It Now' button, just to confuse things)

With the Buy-it-now traders, it's basically a matter of checking the description matches what you need, and pressing the button. Some items (especially accessories) may have a field to buy more than one item, others may have a dropdown to specify the colour or size or something, especially with clothing.

There will be an "Are you sure?" popup. If you agree, it will take you to the checkout page. Depending on the seller they may take other payment options as well, but normally it's done through Paypal so you will probably need to make sure you have a working paypal account first.
Then, you specify the delivery address, pay via paypal and that should be it. There may be options to select different delivery rates.

When the item arrives, it's considered good form to leave feedback for the seller (this is what helps keep ebay honest).

Some sellers may be wary of dealing with people who have made less than 5 purchases (since a scammer can create a new account easily), but that's usually more of a problem with auctions rather than traders who use buy-it-now.

If you have to set up a paypal account as well, that may delay things since it can take a few days to verify you before the account is usable.

Hope that helps. Apologies if you have used ebay before and your question really meant something else :P

No apologies necessary jpmorris, I did use E-bay some years ago and I need a refresher anyway. I was asking about an oversee transaction (US buyer and UK seller), if there are hidden import fees other than what the seller's price and shipping cost. For example the two counter belts shipped would cost $18 as stated by seller. Do I also have to pay custom duty? I was hoping that someone who had done this before would share their experience.

I haven't gone that way round, no. However, I have bought things from the US and Europe. The only time I had to deal with customs so far was when I purchased an MSR24 headblock, which was somewhere around $200. For something that's more like $20 I doubt they'll bother with it.
