+ or - db when eq-ing

i want to increase the bass in my mix when i select the track should i move in a - direction to increase bass or is it the other way around. my monitors are rubbish so i cant really tell if there is a difference. im using a Boss BR 8.

If you can't tell whether you're increasing bass or not thru your monitors, you better get yourself some new ones - that's some serious sonic deficiency!!
