Optimal Screen Size?

I'm looking into getting a larger computer monitor. I'm currently running a 17" and a 12" (both 4:3) side by side. I want to replace both with a single widescreen, but don't want to spend too much, probably less than $300. So I guess my question is, what is the optimal (or minimum?) screen size for running Logic, Pro Tools, or any recording software?

what resolution do you plan to use ? What are you using now ?
Question: do you want a big screen with lots of real estate and small fonts or big fonts
What resolutions does your video card / output currently support ? You might just get BIG fonts, and not more screen real estate

whatever you can read without moving your head. I know someone that thought he was cool and got 2 30" wide screens and it is painful to work on. Like sitting in the front row of a movie theater, you have to literally turn your head almost all the way from one side to the other to look things at opposite ends

$300 will buy you alotta screen on fleabay... i copped a 22" for @$130... that was a new LG...

Ah ha, I have to do that to see my "peripheral" screens but it doesn't bother me that much They're only 22-inchers in the middle and I sit back far enough that I don't have to move my head that much to see to the sides. This is my current setup...

I was hoping to get away with a single widescreen and my 17" as a satellite. I haven't had a chance to check, but I believe my highest resolution is 1440x960.

22" works great for me. I would hesitate to buy anything larger than that unless I was wall mounting a secondary monitor for movie viewing, etc.
