I have two optical cables, one that has a sort of square piece on it that makes it fit into all my pro audio gear, and another that is just the same size as an 1/8" jack. Are these two totally different types of optical cable or is there some kind of adapter i can put on 1/8" one to make it fit in my pro audio gear? (the 1/8th inch fits into my mini-disc player and i want to be able to hook that up to my equipment).

Thanks,
T

Sounds like the first is toslink, typically use for adat, and the second is rca SPDIF.

You cannot use an adapter, but you can get equipment that will convert the signal from one to the other. Probably more expensive than you'd like.

no neither of them are SPDIF, they're both optical. I can see the little light sensors on both cables, one is just an 1/8th inch plug and the other is the standard for the ADAT lightpipe and home theater digital audio systems.

Thanks,
T

Doh! I should have read the question more carefully......

Thanks again,
