bring the vocals up. maybe it's just the effect thats doing it.
Is there phazing on the drums, or is is these speakers? Sometimes PC speakers suck. The snare may be a little far, also.

I think that would tighten this thing up alot. This song would be great if it were tighter, cause I like it now.

Vocals need to come WAY up. I'm guessing you're monitoring might have something to do with the fact that they're way back there. Try listening to your mix on a few different systems. A cheap walkman can tell you a lot about your mix.

Is that a flange on the drums, or is it the result of a crappy mp3 encoder? The drums really detract from the whole mix. However, they should like real drums, which I like!

Are you running effects on the vocals?

What's your soundcard, preamp, and primary microphone?

I really liked this song BTW. If the mix were cleaner, it would be REALLY nice!

I did indeed use a stereo flange on the drums (real drumming by the way), I kinda liked the sound of it. I purposely kept the vocals low on the mix to try and get the "shoegazing" sound of the bands of the early 90's.

The vocals did have some echo, but not much, I'm still playing around with N-Track but I really like this song. It's nice when you actually enjoy listening to one of your own tunes.

Thanks for the input

Pretty cool song Royston. You definitely got the shoegazer sound there. I would like to hear the words though I liked em in your other songs. Just remember 10 good years have passed since that sound was in style, not saying that's what you're going for, but since the Brit Rock scene follows trends, you may find it hard to get accepted by that crowd if you're not riding the new wave of style trends for the new breeds of brit rock like Mansen, Cold Play, Gomez, Arab Strap, etc. Take Blur for example, and look at how they survived by altering their sounds and redefining the "Manchester Sound".

Good point Rats, but I've never been one for following trends. And who knows, maybe I'll do a New Romantic styled song next week.

:)

Yeah maybe that was a poor choice of wording. You don't want to be following trends. Definitely not, and I need to rephrase that.

In my mind, and from what you can gather from successful musicians throughout time, a general rule has been followed: You should never try to emulate current trends, but it's natural to be influenced by what is currently happening. Of course the first one to be pleased should be number one.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

vocals should come up. and the toms are really too loud and tuned too low, they sound really "rock" and the rest of the kit sounds more lo-fi. otherwise, a good song. also, maybe a little reverb on the vocals to make them sound more ethereal. i dig this though.

I agree with all the commentary above as far as the recording aspect... bring those vocals UP!!

As for the song itself... very cool! :)
I liked it alot!

It sounds kinda like an Oasis tune, but then the change at around 1:45 had a T-Rex feel to it.... nice. ;)

Thumbs up!
