OK you've gone a day with no response, so I'll chime in. I own and use
a C4000B, and it is a good useful mic. Having said that, it is not what I would call a general purpose tool, and I wouldn't recommend it as your main, or only LDC. It doesn't have the "current" high-mid-boosted, low-mid-scooped sound that a lot of LDCs (especially the less expensive ones) seem to have. It does have an extended low end, and plenty of highs, but is not edgy or brittle to my ears. It definitely has its own character, but is sometimess hard to fit into a mix. It sounds very good on some vocals (my voice in particular, which doesn't sound good on many mics), it makes a great room mic, and I like it on kick drum for certain styles of music.
In re-reading the above, it came out a little more negative than I intended - I guess I was subconsciously pandering to those who prefer the Rode/SP/XXX 'flavor' of mic that seems to be in favor at the moment. I'm also a little spoiled, having over 60 mics to chose from. Bottom line:
It's a good mic which would compliment (or contrast with) most other LDCs in its price range, but if you're going to track a whole project with it for the main mic, I predict you'll be reaching for the EQ to make things fit.
