i'm getting lucky and pops is gonna go half on a new geetar for me. although he said not a PRS, that sucks, so I started looking around and have played a few but haven't had a chance to try a schecter yet. How are they? I've been playing a les pual and want something a little different maybe edgier, I also like the ESP I tried a week ago. Any opinions?

Actually, i believe that ESP and Schecter are now owned by the same company in Asia. As for Schecter, there are really 2 divisions, a handmade,US division and an Asian-made division (like many guitar manufacturers these days). I only have experience with the US made ones and they are great, rock solid guitars. Built very well with great feel and sound. Predictably, the US made guitars are a bit harder to find (they aren't in every Sam Ash and catalog like their Asia brethren), but not "rare". Also, as you would expect, they are more expensive than the Asian ones. I usually see them in the $1000-1400 range. I have no experience with the Asian guitars so I couldn't comment on them. They might be great buys and good guitars.

mmmm... ESP

If I were to buy a new guitar, I would go with the ESP LTD series. one with the EMG pickups would be the best, unless you are planning to upgrade.... mmmm... dimarzio evolution is awesome. anyways, have fun with your guit!

yeah i remember trying one of those about 10 er 12 years ago, it did rock!!!!, it was a schecter strat (don't know if they make other styles),,,,,,man i've had de old hamer shaperals 84's 85's,,usa strats with jeff beck pickups in dem, strats with da EMGs,,put together strats with warmoth parts, i built my own strat (the inlays were all crooked, lol but da git stayed in tune as long as the nut was clean)
and i can tell u,,,,that schecters r a good guitar!!!! barnone.....but remember that every guitar company has it's lemons. it's pressouts, and it's gems (just like the G&L tele i tried out the other day),,,,if u find one that feels good 2 u,,,then ask a friend to check it out too,,,,,,,,remember even a cheap guitar with a bone nut, and a good seymour dunken er EMG pickup put into it,,,can rock!!! spend some time choosing, feel yer gut, if u get a feeling thats enharmonic to a wornout clutch,,,go fer some lunch, or sleep on it,a big price tag doesn't always mean a great guitar,,,,but then again, quality never comes cheap (unless yer my cousin joe and u just bought a piece of my gear lol)good luck,,,,,,,,peace :o)

For a change.....

Do yourself a favor and just try out a Parker Fly. It really depends on your price range as to if you could buy one, but I think everyone should pick up a Fly at least once and play it. I think mine's just amazing!

Yeah Flattop, I remember playing a custom Schecter back about 12-13 years ago, and thinking it was a KILLER guitar. Was about $700 or so back then. I think, like someone else said, that Schecter has started mass producing guitars, which I don't believe they did to the degree they are doing now. Back then, I remember Pete Townsend was playing a Schecter a lot of times, as well as some other big name players.

I would assume they are equivalent to others in their price range. Buying new guitars is nice, because they alwaysd have that new feel, which I dig. Shop around, you can sometimes find some good deals. My main guitar is a Fender Big Apple Strat that I got on a manager's special from Guitar Satan for $500 with a Fender HS case. Deals are out there.
