So, is the mic a peice of crap or what? I see them advertised for like.. $50-60 bucks, so am I better off spending a little more for something like the B-1?
Yeah being a 990 owner, they are a very sound specific mic. They are the kind of mic where you would say "yeah this mic sounds good on (insert instrument here) but only if you are going for a (insert style here) sound.
So I would go for the SP just because it is more versatile!
It's a $50 mic. Not great, not bad. Has its uses, for sure (I like it one clean electric guitar, and it's serviceable on my voice). There may be better options if you can go up to $100 (Studio Projects B1, MXL V67g, AT2020).
If I were you I'd just shell out a couple extra bucks like scrubs suggested. I purchased the 990/993 combo a few months back and have been using the 990 for a vocal mic and the 993 to record my acoustic. They both have an extreme high end bump and tend to get harsh pretty easily. If you were to need something bright to cut in a mix they would be great. I wish I just had 2 993's now just so I could use them on overheads when I start to record drums. Get the C1, B1, or the AT2020. Check the frequency response and use that to help judge by what you're needing it for.
Ok, so. Studio Projects B1 vs. MXL V67g. Pros and cons of each? Which one is better, or which would be better for me? I'm probably going to use it mostly for acoustic guitar and tenor male voice and alto female voice. Soo suggestions?
the 990 also has many supporters around here, including some very experienced members.....it's not complete crap and is worth 50-60 in my opinion.....it's not amazing, but it's 50-60$
