They all suck.

Anything less than a $1,000 mic is a waste of time.

Don't you know that?

Thanks guys, some good information.

dgatwood, while I understand your points I don't think that it's going to make a big difference when I'm looking at a $100 mic. I believe from listening and from advice that a $100 condenser would be better than what I have. Are you telling me that if I told you the current mic had weak bass or too much treble then you would recommend a different $100 mic ??

Quite possibly. Every mic has its own character. Of course, there are some ~$100 condensers that just plain suck, but you probably won't hear recommendations for any of those. That said, there's still a wide variation between the ones that are good as far as how they sound.

If the current mic sounds muddy in the highs, a condenser might be a great choice. If the dynamic sounds harsh and bright, you might be better off with a ribbon. If the current mic has too much presence, you might want to pick a mic with a broader pickup pattern. If you hear too much room noise, you might be better off with a narrower pattern. You might even find that other factors like where you stand in the room when singing or how close you stand to the mic can make a huge difference that might be enough to save you $100....

The more you tell us about what you don't like about your current sound and what your voice sounds like, the more likely you are to get an answer that leads to a big step up instead of just a moderate improvement.

I'd say you want the SP B1 mic. Remeber that song of mine you played on your show "public education" that was done on a SP B1..

Also another mic that gets a LOT of good press (Actually i havent heard anything bad about it) and offers a full money back guarante is the Kel Audio hm1. Heres the link. I'd say this mic is DEFINATLY worth a try.. It's 99 dollars shipped to your door. Cant beat that with a stick.
