I think you can add Scully to the USA list.

Cheers,

Otto

Philips is from the Netherlands
ITAM were from the UK
There's also STM Studiotechnical from Hungary (they may even still exist, I'm not sure)
Grundig are from Germany
I believe the original Magnetofon system was made by AEG in Germany

Yeah, STM-700 16 track 2" aren't so bad, I've seen one. I thought those were Czech, but could be Hungarian.
There's also Russian Lomo (the same company has produced the famous Lomo photo cameras ) and the consumer Olimp decks.

I believe Norelco is one of the Philips companies. I have a Philips machine, made in Europe (I don't remember exactly which country, and the machine is temporarily inaccessible), which at 7.5ips outperformed 15ips Japanese units costing 2-3 times as much. I also have a Norelco mic, made in Austria.

Thx wil
Finally located online history of Philips/Norelco, they are both Dutch. Thx.

Another Australian make, Technicorda. They made tube models in the 50's.

Tim

Vortexion were a UK firm (they used the Ferrograph chassis). Baird are as well.
The Soundmirror was made by Brush in the USA.

And Philips are still listed under 'Denmark'...

And althought Radio Shack/ Realistic is from Tandy Corp, a US (Fort Worth, Texas) based company, they did not make their own hardware.
Example: The Realistic TR3000 is a TEAC (ie Japan) built unit branded by Radio Shack.
I would venture that most of their tape hardware was Japan built.

Ah, I see - you've got 'Danish' and 'Dutch' confused :)
Yes, and now that I've shown my ignorance of world geography, I will apologize to all the European Brethren on forum, and put Philips/Norelco in the Netherlands, not Denmark.
Sorry,correction made. :)

And no one has recognized any of the "Unknown" ones?

All the info I've found online, shows Philips/Norelco recorders both as Dutch companies?
Ah, I see - you've got 'Danish' and 'Dutch' confused :)

Denmark and the Netherlands are different countries. Holland (Philips) is just west of Germany, Denmark (Lyrec) is north of it, up by Sweden and Norway.

While we're in Europe, Stuzzi machines were made, I think, in Austria.

Tim

You should probably put Realistic/Radio Shack/Tandy in Japan anyway, as the machines I know of were made by TEAC Japan. There may have been other decks made by other manufacturers before my time... I don't know.

About everything Radio Shack sold was made in Japan... now all made in China. Where next I wonder?
