Yeah "oops" is maybe going a little easy on me.. I recently had to reformat and reinstall everything on my computer.. and when I tracked my bands latest project I had forgotten to set it to record at 24 bits..

What's done is done but now i'm wondering.. since it all has to be converted back down to 16 bits anyway to go on a cd is it's really a huge deal? Or do you guys think it's way better to record and mix in 24 bit (obvious reasons i can think of is a more transparent mix... you'll be able to hear what's going on that much more.. or maybe i'm wrong)

I'm going to finish up the mixing for sure.. but I could suggest retracking if it'll make that huge of a difference

Are you saying that you accidentally recorded at 16 bit? If so then I would just listen to what you have and see if it sounds bad. It probably wont. Lots of people still record a 16 bit. You do end up there anyway so there will be no dithering for you. There are benefits to 24 bit, but as long as you like the preformance that you have and there are no obvious recording errors (clipping and whatnot) I would just keep it. No need to retrack just for that.

There's nothing bad about recording in 16bit, I know guys who do every day. You just won't have the same headroom you would with 24. It's no big deal really.

be the judge of what gives you a better sound. I personelly record at 24 an then export wav. at 16 for cd purpose.

yeah I'll be albe to make due... i mean i never really noticed it until well into the mixing..

24bit would be better to mix in though.. oh well c'est la vie
