Its time for some upgrades. I have a decent kit for now (Mapex Pro M), one good crash (Zildjain medium 16" A Custom), but its time to upgrade everything else besides stands.

So, this is my list so far:

22" Paiste Wild Ride
17" medium-thin Zildjian K Dark Crash
14" Sabian HHX Groove Hats
Axis Aax-x Single Bass Pedal
Pork Pie Round throne

What do you think? Particularly on the cymbal choices.

My thoughts for these choices were

ride- Nice break-up to it, with nice washy overtones, yet enough ping

17" k crash- figured itd be a nice contrast to the brighter, quicker A custom that i already have, a nice, darker sound

14" hats- sound very versatile, mellow sounding, yet can get gritty with slightly opened for heavier stuff

The sucky thing is, Im basing this all off of online samples. Only one music store within 200 miles, and they carry very few cymbals....

I feel your pain having to do everything by mail order, although it's been years since I had to do that.

I don't know where you live, but considering that you'll be spending a good chunk of change on the gear, it might just be worth your while to get to a decent drum shop and try some of these things out. I know I could be driven crazy by a pedal that didn't feel right — Axis makes nice pedals, but I'm sure the action isn't for everyone.

I can't really help you much on the cymbals choices, except that the K dark crash is one I've liked for a long time. I don't own one, but it's always seemed pretty versatile when I've heard them.

At the very least, make sure the place you're ordering from will let you return stuff if you don't like it.

ya, thats what I was planning on doing, returning things if i dont like em. Musicians Friend seems pretty good about that, as long as its withing 45 days.
