mary......

Mary,

The internet does not breed courtesy and while there is much to learn here and good people to help, there are also flaming assholes. Even the good people lose it from time to time. Hopefully your skin is thick enough to benefit from the talent here.

Mary, what type of music do you want to create?

ok

i love ALL kinds ok music but i must say that for muy singing its all about pop, its not stupid pop, not brtney spearish type... more like michel branch...cristina agulera....maya....pink, i love loud music and all that.

Yo Mary quite contrary:]

Love your enthusiasm for music.

One suggestion:

Work a bit on your spelling. Spellcheck will help.

Just a friendly tip due to my former gig as a teacher.

oh well

well if you were a teacher i supose you might know what dixlexia means??? well due to taht i have a consentration porblem and cant focus compleatly on what i write, so ive always been picked on beacuse of my speling, so plz this a place were i can feel good, not bad about my other problems. thanks.

mary..

Don't worry Mary dyslexia is pretty common and you don't need to be able to write 'correctly' in order to sing well.... in fact...... it just might help.

IMHO it's all about passion. If you want to sing badly enough you'll do it.... whatever the problems.

For every one person who posts here there's many more that just read the stuff and I bet most of them are on your side --- being a musician is a sort of international club after all. People that have never stood on a stage don't know the buzz.... or the terror.... so all power to you and your ambitions..... even the most cynical musician would wish you well.

If you're anything like the others I've met from your part of the world you'll have bags of heart and a lot of guts. You need both to follow a dream...

...Go follow it Mary.... wherever it takes you... nothing else really matters when you get right down to the bottom line of life.

Very cool, Mary, you have your own thread! Well, you can say "no mean comments" but there will always be mean comments. I guess that's rule #1. If you want to be a singer, sing. When you do, people will tell you to shut up. Sing anyway.
Rule #2- stop worrying about being a star and worry about the music. If you want to be a star, all you have to do is sleep with the right people. If you want to be a musician, it will take years of hard work. You have to decide right off whether you want to make the most money you can, or the best music you can. Sooner or later, those two goals will not fit together.
Rule #3- Making good recordings takes a lot of money, so either figure out how to make money, or find someone with a lot of gear who believes in you. Note- this is Home recording.com, not becoming a star.com. Very few people here can tell you how to become a star, but they can tell you how to build, equip, and use a home recording studio. Instead of asking the people here what they don't know, ask them what they do know. But the answer will usually be- "What are you trying to do, what have you got already, and how much money do you have to spend?" I own about $20,000 worth of instruments and recording gear, and from a professional point of view, I'm a beginner.
So- if you want advice, you have to tell a lot. It's like going to a doctor, he can't help you unless you take off your clothes. So- Have you written any songs already? Have any of them been recorded on anything? Do you play or own any instruments? Have you ever taken music or voice lessons? Can you read music? What do you own for listening to music? What do you use for a computer- how much RAM, what kind of processor, everything? Are you an Alto? soprano? mezzo? don't know? Tell us more about where you are at and where you want to be going, and maybe we can help you get on the right road.-Richie

well

that is so clear, i want to do this only, and only for the joy that i get when singing, i have wrote songs yes, and no i do not play any instruments. you see i want to sing just because i want the world to know what i have to say and make a difference, no for the world to give me money.
i've never had vocal lessons, my parents won't pay, kind of funny if you think of it, they are obesesed with being thin but the aren't, and i am not fat, they say i have to go to the gym frist beacuse "singer have to be thin"
GOD COULD THEY BE MORE SHALOW?!?!?!?!'
it suprises me sometimes how we can be related....
oh well, i dont know what kind of voice i have...soprano and all that stuff, i basaicaly sing, no imstruments, i have a gitar but it's missing like 3 thingis , so nothing to go there, and aparently i have to be "thin" (aka: anorexic) to have gitar lessons....GOD...
oh well i can just say that if you think people here won't help, you'd be suprised, many people , one specialy, have helped me out so i am fine here, and if you want to teache me how to do home recording i am so open to, that.... i am not so great in comp. so you might losse your patience but, give it a try , ok? ;)

Yo Mary:

Wishing nothing but the very BEST in your pursuit of a singing career.

I'm sure you make a couple of mil while I'm still stuck on spelling.

I did teach a couple of kids with dyslexia in my career and they did very well.

That is what you will do, too.

Well Mary, you already have one problem. Building up the diaphragm, the breathing muscle, for singing, tends to dispose you to gain weight easily. Elsie Melba, the famous opera singer, had a French chef so in love with her that he kept sending her desserts he named after her. Peach Melba, Srawberry Melba, etc. Finally, she asked for thin sliced toast- that's right- Melba toast!
She spent her whole life singing and fighting to stay thin, and never got to eat all of the desserts named after her.
So do what you need to do, even if your parents are a little looney. If being thin means guitar lessons (and a guitar), then be thin. You can be whatever weight you want to be- later. Want to be a great musician? You'll have to make lots bigger sacrifices than being thin. Might as well start now.-Richie
