Yeah, everybody remembers those dark days when the only european connection to Libya was Malta...we're not exactly very fond of Libyans
When you go for a drive in Malta, you've gotta be careful you don't run out of road and fall into the sea

LOL, growing up there, I didn't like Libya or the Libyans either. But now that I've been away, I've remember the little things. Like how hospitable they are. Or like how you could leave your car unlocked and just go into your house. Overall, I miss those days. Most of all, where ever one grows up, it ends up being the best place in the world. But I bet the influx of a bunch of weirdos from down south caused quite a havoc during those years. The seaports used to look like zoos.

I'd love to go visit Malta and Libya and all those places again some day.... God Willing....

And both for the same reason--Joe wrote, played & sang such a great song, everything I added practically played itself. It's pretty easy when the heavy lifting has already been done!

if you look at the Mediterranean on a map, you'll find a tiny little dot right under Sicily (looks like a fly shit there....), that's Malta....
you must have had a damn good periscope!

Oh, I know where Malta is. During my time in the navy, I've driven by pretty often. Stuck the periscope out of the water and got to take a look once or twice. Long time ago, now. I'd like to spend a year sailing through the med with the family. Go back and visit all these places I could only see through the scope.

I agree about getting the sound and compression right at the mix stage. In fact I've become a bit of an automaton when it comes to shoving Cubase's VST dynamics comp on almost every track. I've already worked out my template settings, so usually, they just need a tweak. This can lead to a certain amount of same-ness at times, but I thing anything that minimises the engineering time gives you more time to be creative in writing and playing.

It's so nice to get real, positive and informative feedback from real players/producers. This is what forums like this should be. I hate it when forums turn into sound boards for the ignorant, arrogant or downright ego-manic.

Keep up the good work bro.

What part of Germany you at? I just landed back in Canada 2 months ago from having travelled and lived in Europe for a year, I lived the last 6 months close to Frankfurt in a little town called Giessen.

I totally agree with you about the minimising.....I think most of us here in the clinic are musicians first and engineers later (I don't deserve that title....). The fact that there are no arrogant ego-maniacs on this forum is why I simply love it. I got critical comments on my earlier songs, but they were always constructive and helped me to get better. Still got a long way to go, but I'm in good company And it's alway interesting to do collabs with such good musicians.

I like it when people compare me to good singers, (though I don't think I'm that good, probably because I'm hardly ever satisfied...). But I'm sure you know what that's like. It's hard to judge when you're recording yourself. But I guess I do OK..... Yeah the snare is always a central figure in a song, I wish I could find the magic sample or setting to get it sounding right. I'm still searching.....
