Sorry if this has been covered - I couldn't find the answer in a cursory search.

I'm going to upgrade my soundcard. I only need 2 ins and outs. My only concern (besides price of course) is to get the signal in and out with as little change/artifact as possible.

I'm looking at Lynx 1 and Lynx L22.

Would I get a better (less noisy) conversion if I used the digital I/O of a cheaper card (audioplile or similar) and bought outboard converters such as flying cow? Would this be only the equivalent (signal-wise) of the delta1010 (which I understand is a step down from the Lynx's)?

I can't afford the lucids. Is there anything in between quality-wise?

Thanks for any suggestios - I'm pretty ignorant of soundcard technology.

Any opinions, or do I need to word the question differently?

The Lynx and the RME cards are great cards. For PCI cards they are high quality, professional level products.

the lynxtwo coule be just as good or even better then the lucid converters from what those who would know better think...team it up witha Lucid genx6-96 word clock and you got a kick ass set of converters...the word clock helps tighten up the D/A on the lynxtwo at least thats my experience..i haven't recorded anything yet since connecting it

Well, with the lynx 2 and the word clock we're already talking $1600 - that's unfortunately out of my price range. I was hoping something could be had in the $600 range as I only need two inputs and two outs.

L22 goes for 625 i think...lynxtwo and l22 are the same sonically, if your coming from a delta/motu/echo background you'll be PLEASANTLY surprised
