Ive been shopping for a m-audio audiophile card and noticed that there is no input for the cd rom so I can playback cds.

this can be troublesome because I only have 1 posssible slot to put the device in and I will have to remove a sound card to put it there.

I know what you mean. I made a special audio cable for my CD-R that connects on one end to the back of the CD-R unit inside my computer and splits to 2 male 1/4'' connectors on the other end to plug into 2 channels on my mixer (left & right). The documentation that comes with your internal CD player should show the characteristics of the audio connectors...R+ R- & L+ L-. If you aren't using a hardware mixer I guess you could make a cable like I did and run it from your CD player to stereo audio in's on you soundcard and monitor those inputs. Hope it helps. BTW, I have 2 Delta 1010's w/o an internal CD audio connector.

Most don't have that connector.

As an alternative to keeping the other soundcard, you can play CDs through the file system with some (if not most by now) of the Windows media players. I know that newer versions of WinAmp and version 7 of the Microsoft Windows Media Player let you do this.

Thanks for the Info maybe with that I can have my music come out at 24 bits while Im listening too.

Uhhh... darrin, audio CDs are 16-bit...

the D/A converters are bound to be better than those on a cheapie soundcard, though...

Yes but my music is done in 24/96 from my hard drive. At least It will be when I get that card.

Hdcd is also going to be 24/96 as soon as I get the dvd writeable Ill master to It. They are under 500.00 now:cool:

Click on My Computer>Control Panel>Multimedia and select your soundcard from the drop down list for playback and record. I selected Pulsar from my list and I connected the monitor outs of the Pulsar "Big Mixer" to the analog out module. Then, I connect the physical RCA analog outs of the Pulsar card to the external amp . My Pulsar card is only installed on my "audio" partition. I can't play CD ROMs on my "internet" partition. You don't need to make any internal wire connections from the CD ROM like you do on a sound blaster card.
I also have a Fostex D824 HD recorder that I plan to eventually use to burn 24/96 DVD RAM disk when DVD prices come down and I get richer. I burn 16/44 CDs now using Samplitude2496.

Hey Darrin....
Just out of curiousity, how is it you only have one available slot? What mobo, and other cards are you running?

A darla 24 is the only soundcard I have in my computer. If you have a cd rom with a head phone out you can to radioshack and buy a couple of adapters (ie 1/8" to 1/4" to 2 rcas to 2 1/4" ) which will allow you to go from your cd rom into the ins in your darla.

All I have is a modem and a turtle beach montego 2 sound card.

And theres only two pci slots on my motherboard. Im looking to upgrade to an athlon 1.1 ghz soon and a new motherboard and case will be nessessary to make this change.

but if i get the audiophile sound card I want to use it for hearing my mixes and the choice listening material that I dig.
