Hopefully I will get out of the newbie section eventually...

I need to buy some decent monitors for mixing. I have the MAudio Omni-Studio (omni breakout box + Delta 66). I read the manual and notice their are 2 sets of outputs for monitoring, one is record out and the other monitor out. The first is I imagine an unamplified signal for line-ins on a stereo system. The second is for mix monitors. The first says it is the signal before the monitor level setting on the audio card's mixer and the second is it is the signal after the monitor level setting is applied on the audio card's mixer. However, the diagrams show the monitors out going into an amplifier which then goes to the speakers. I am thoroughly confused. Do I need active or passive monitors for the monitor out jacks? Thanks in advance!

P.S. I didn't have the manual here at work, so I may have screwed up some terminology, but i hope it is clear...

You would need powered monitors or a power amp to use either set of outputs. I believe the difference is that one set of outputs are before the DAC's and have no latency. The other set (record outs) is after the computer so there would be a bit of latency.

You would use the monitor outs while tracking so you hear yourself without any delay caused by the convertors and hard disc.

I'm not real familiar with the Delta's so anyone please correct me if I am wrong.
