Poor guy... :( If I were him, my next ebay purchase would be an msblaze virus to fuck the original sellers computer up.

In fact, maybe the original seller of the four track was msblaze.... Are you there Sean or Shawn? Can you confirm this?

Good plan! :D

I once traded my prized '73 telecaster for a vintage gibson les paul with p-90's in it (dont remember the year). turned out the gibby had mold growing under the finish behind the neck. I called the guy up (who was a professional trader) and told him that in fact, I was not a complete idiot, and he is going to swap me back. which he did. what a douche though. he still denied the existance of any mold...claimed he just wanted me to be happy with the trade and that's the only reason he was trading back. wha???

You know, he really might not have known about the mold. When you have a lot of guitars you sometimes stop paying attention to what sort of condition they're in.......................

Here's the auction where the unfortunate guy bought this thing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9725273930

The seller, for what it's worth, was "wanttoplay78." He has largely positive feedback, which might mean something about him, or maybe the feedback system, or perhaps neither.

That cheesy TEAC gear can't even take being stored standing in water for a couple of decades ....

Speaking strictly from experience, a seller's feedback is certainly helpful but in no way does it guarantee a satisfactory transaction. There is a sense of letting your guard down when purchasing from someone with hundreds or thousands of transactions but that's not good. You must ask and instruct a seller as you would a newbie ebayer.

One must never assume the seller will pack or inspect the item properly, no matter if he has a handful of feedback points or is a power seller. If he tells you he'll pack well or use padding or whatever, it's your duty to ask for details and inform yourself on proper packaging.

The original above seller should be liable for both incompetent packing and undisclosed water damage. There were obvious signs of rust on the surface of the unit but were not investigated.

OMG again!!! Take a look at this same guy's revised Buy it Now!! I sincerely hope it's a typo and he meant $99 or better yet $9 'cause it's pretty disturbing as is! Yeah, $1000 bucks for a severely water damaged and broke up during shipping 40-4! Yeah, right!

Again, I sincerely hope it's a typo on his part 'cause if not then the original seller seems an angel compared to this guy. Yeah, unload that piece of junk on some unsuspecting soul.

I think I'll shoot him an email ... ;)

Same link (and auction) as above, my 1st starting post. Same seller.

He changed the BIN price from $200 to $999! Both are ridiculous, I know, but my sympathy for this guy is going way down.

Have you considered that it might be to prevent people from buying it?

This seller's a complete ass asking for a buy it now price like that. He must not care that he will pass his woes onto some other poor schlub. Currently I'm the high bidder at $30, but I didn't hit the reserve.

I don't see this seller (the second one, that is) doing anything wrong with the "bin" price. It's really more like a sort of joke. He tells you in the listing how awful the thing is, complete with grisly photos of corroded internal organs. If anything, raising the bin price to way over what a mint item would be worth made it less likely some high-speed shopper might hit it without looking at the listing.

His whole listing was probably done less in an attempt to sell the thing (I doubt he'd want to bother with shipping it anyway), and more as a public rant against the transaction in which he got stuck with it.

Maybe, but an auction is about the worst place for a joke if you want to sell something. Its auctions like these that whittle away my hope for ebay.

I don't know ... there have been some pretty good "joke" auctions on eBay.

If I remember correctly (which is a leap of faith), some guy actually got offered a job as a writer on the strength of an eBay listing for a pair of leather pants.

Then there was the guy (again, on memory) who had a listing for his ex-wife's wedding gown, complete with photos of him modeling it -- he being the last guy you'd ever want to see in a wedding gown.

Well, you were correct my friend. Here's an email reply from this seller:

"Yes, $999. I have priced it so high that no one would want it. I truly do not want to sell this to anyone, it really is beyond repair. This auction is merely to provide a means of showing the Ebay community that there are unscrupulious sellers out there, be careful. Thanks for your interest, and good luck."

I'm just wondering why he didn't just say so in the first place.

I went to the auction number that he had in his description and it was definitely in better shape in that photo. It is very possible that whatever company shipped the deck could be at fault. We've all seen the video of the UPS workers throwing packages into bins. I'm not saying that the water damage wasn't there to begin with, but he said it was damaged during shipping. If they dropped it hard enought to bend and distort the top panel that bad who KNOWS where they dropped it or left it sit. I would not be so quick to blame the seller yet. The buyers words were quote "In addition, it was smashed severely during shipping." That's where I would start before I start ruining someones reputation. I would start checking with the shipping company. The guy guaranteed it not to be DOA on arrival. I don't think we have the whole story. I have over 100 hundred transactions on ebay and I have 100% feedback and I don't think the first seller was trying to pull a fast one. Compare the pics. Copy and paste the item number and look. Just my thought.
