Just to record something I went waay back and re-did this thing. Recorded first in '86 or so on a 4 track which accounts for the dated-ness of the material. Still a little stale sounding and rough around the edges but pretty listenable I think. I imagine it could use vocals but is bearable as an instrumental. Recorded on Pt9 using a variety of guitars, my beloved mellotron sampler, and a cheap yamaha midi drum kit into addictive drums. Thanks for listening.

Nice and clean. Yeah, dated, but let's call it 'vintage'? Love the chugging guitars. Reminds me of 'Toad the Wet Sprocket' a little bit. Maybe the drums could be a bit more wet, but that is about it. I like the moody middle section with the high plinky stuff. Very nice. Keep it up! Add a nice pop vocal for fun, might sound just right!

drums are a little buried and dry, and the guitars are a little loud. Maybe bringing one up or the other down will balance it out a bit. If you're using AD, can't you add some room or wet the drums up a little without getting crazy? I don't know much about AD.

needs some vocals or leads!!!

Bass sounds good. Nice foundation, could stand to be a little louder in the middle part, but sounds good on the rest.

Hey man - I really like this. Love the guitar soundscape, bass is really cool. Great changes. Dated, schmated - no way, even the title is great. We probably started recording right around the same time. You get way better sounds out of addictive than I do - though they were a little dry as someone else mentioned - but I liked the preciseness of it.

I love that bit that comes in at 0:31 for the first time, I can almost hear Sting singing away there. Nice bass tone. What it needs is some orchestral hits here and there :D.

sounds cool man. Throw down some vocals and finish it up :D

Thanks guys for listening-

Chrisjorge-"vintage" I do like the sound of that better. There is some verb on the drums, but you all have convinced me to go all the way and push it a bit. I don't really sing or write lyrics though I'm working on it. This is far as most of my recordings get.

aaroncoleman-yes you are right about the guitars being too loud-I had to put the mix through a limiter and pump it a good bit to get a decent level and may have affected my mix. Yes I would love to have layers and layers of echoey vocals, I'm just not the guy to do them...

chukduffy-The ex Athens guy? Well thanks for the listen. I've heard a few of your recordings and your drums sounded excellent. I've found it easy to get sounds out of AD-I like the ludwig kits in the retro pack...Anyways thanks for putting up with this indulgence, I really wanted to record this new dean "boca" 12 string i just got in the mail. Do you have a collection of recordings online somewhere? send me a link.....

Yep - ex Athens guy here :-) If the drums sounded good on my stuff - it's probably the tune my buddy Rod played on, or the tune that I spent days messing with the AD drums and building a preset of my own. The 'Black Oyster' kits in the retro pack are actually my pick of the litter. Anyway - the guitars and bass sounded cool on speakers, and the cans. Lots of motion and cool bell like tones. I'll shoot you a link to my blog.

ps - I pmed you a link - but I can't tell if it actually worked or not as there is nothing in my sent items - let me know if you do/don't get it :-) AND I wanna bump this anyway cause I REALLY LIKE IT.

I had to listen after you mentioned mellotron.
Good song.
Bass is a little big in the bottom end in some spots during the change.
Neither old nor vintage - it is begging for a vocal melody & lyrics though.
'Tron sampler - a sampler you've loaded with Tron or what?
I have a few 'Tron sample sets (mono wavs approx 7 secs each) that I cut & paste into a track - laborious work but I LOVE the sound.
Enjoyed you track - why not spend the energy & take it further?

Thanks Toad and FoulPhil for checking in-Yes! The Police! I was definitely listening to them when I originally did this, I could point you at some Yes and King Crimson where you'd say-oh thats where that came from...

RayC-It's the IK multimedia Sampletron, not nearly as laborious as what you describe-wow. As far as singing and lyrics, i'm a real late bloomer as far as those things go. The singing I am working on but the lyrics....that's where things come to a grinding halt. I had a singer I worked with but every time he says he's gonna come work with me, he has a baby instead. I liked your song, quite a striking piece I don't think i'll forget it. You were able to have a real cello and flute too, excellent.

ChuckD-Got your PM's and have already listened to all of it while making dinner. Watch your pm box.

Jeez let this thing drop already....
