You guys have problems. I'm on a 32.2 connection and downloaded it in about 10 minutes.

That's one of the best sounding mp3's I've heard here, LongWave. Definitely not my cup of tea, but that sounds top notch to me.

I have no suggestions :)

production was IM undecated O flawless again.

It sounded too much like "what I need" though.

funk on!

thanks guys.

-mixmkr, do you think the intro had anything to do with your reaction? check out the rest of the song if you can.

yeah...I went and ate supper, and let the song download. I don't know what the secret is for d/l speed...but anywazz...no worries.

first off, I need to say, your stuff is absolutely great...your recording really shines (even if you think you need to change things to improve....but a good attitude, however). You get a great balance, EQ-wise, and your singer is equally as talanted.

ok...the intro....yeah...it did kinda freak me out. I am going from memory from my last listen (last night)...but I believe there was a harpsicord sound...and some shakers..or something similar...that was played in a higher register...and moved along pretty decently, tempo wise. When the FULL drums kicked in...and then the vocals, things "shifted" back into the realm of normalness (FOR ME), and didn't seem so 'squeaky-clean' and munchkin like.

I did listen all the way thru (and I liked the autotune effect also), and can only give you high marks. However, this stuff is so out of my fav. genre, that I am twisting my arm to be non-biased when commenting about the song. However, I did still feel that the tempo was a tad fast, and could stand to be slowed down a little bit...like at least 10bpm. Then, I thought it could "lock in" to a much better groove...rather than just whipping by ya.

but...maybe something happening in the lower registers, during the intro, might help...but then again...I kinda resist this kind pop music....so what do I know? :D For some reason, I can really enjoy the music, ONLY if the vocals were gone, even as good as they are.

keep up the good work...and don't listen to old farts like me anyway:p

This cut sounds really good!I like the auto tune thing on the vocals, really goes along with the rest of the song.

MORE!MORE!!!!

hi guys,

well i did a 400 mile trip in my car today so im knackered. went to buy some lovely gear!!

mixmkr, the stuff we're doing now are just kinda demo versions, but kinda not. we will be re-doing all this and doing it really carefully. just little bits and pieces i have in my head.

I'd be interested in hearing something in another vein...with the synth stuff going on...if you have any.

well then...phuuque you....I don't want to hear it if it's not finished;)

hehe, you make me laugh:-)

well, i think it's wise i dont play you stuff which isn't finished. it's going to be quite a long project, so i might post the odd rough mix or something :-)

mixmkr,

what monitors did you listen on out of interest?

I have a couple sets of dinosaurs...Urie 813c, JBL4311, and the Auratone 5C....of which I usually favor the JBL's 75% of the time. The time aligns are for some more serious cranking, while the Auratones give my ears "a rest", rather than using them for 'comparision shopping'. I had some NS10's for a bit, but I never really got to like them, and couldn't "learn" to trust them.

oh...and a Crown DC300 for the bigger guys, and an Alesis RA100 for the lil' cubes... not that that is important...but I consider it part of my monitor setup. .....oh...and zip cord .... NOT!

hey mixmkr,

how much are those jbls going for used. Isnt harvey using the same things. I like both your mixes so I'm intereted.

How do they compare to ns10ms in terms of WYMixIWYG

I've seen them for as cheap as $325 for a pair on Ebay, and always wanted a 2nd pair...especially at that price....ya know..for my TV, backup..whatever. The price is too good to pass. I would guess if you did searches on Ebay from time to time, you'll see them once a month or so for under $400. The ones you will probably find are going may be a 25+ year old pair now, but don't let that scare you away. I'm not sure of the production run year dates...but just guessing now.

I don't know what WYMixIWYG means...but the NS10's really are bad speakers, in my opinion. I got them because everyone else had them, have used them in other studios, and basically tried to force feed myself on them, but the bass response would always be off from what I intended. Now...stuff already mixed, THEN played back on them sounded ok, but I could never work with them as my main mixing speaker.

side note:
ya know..I've told this story before...but there was this discussion, all starting about a list of "myths" I read in keyboard magazine...like could you hear gold plated connectors, wire polarity, if the mic was upside down or not...and WHAT speakers you mixed on. Well Harvey "called" me on the mic/upside down AND the speakers. I sent him a CD I recorded, he told me..."JBL4311's"...because of the midrange bump in them, usually leaving a deficiency(in vocals most of the time) in mixes he can hear. I since learned he has a pair, and worked/designed? for JBL in the past. However, noting the fact that the 4311's are probably more popular than the NS10's, and you saw them in EVERY studio in the 70's and 80's, is why I got them about 20 years ago myself. They're now my best friend besides my dog. (and wife, of course!)

thanks mixmkr,

I'll definitely look into them as a second pair.

cyan...two points...

what does "WYMixIWYG" mean:D ? I'll never get any sleep now!

and..unless you're absolutely addicted to nearfields, and have a pair of H824's or something like that, you may find they'll be your 1st pair, with your current speakers becoming your 2nd!

WYMixIWYG

what you mix is what you get. LOL.

Yes, I am going on ebay to see if there is a pair available, then I'll look for some reviews. If you know any site where there are reviews, I'll be happy to go there.

thanks

and Longwave...if you're reading all this...

Piss off!:p
we're not talking about your music now!!:D :D :D

reviews may be tough to find...being such an old speaker...but, if you find any, I'd be interested too, of course.
