Rockin' & Rollin'
We recorded this song at the end of last summer. We plan on doing a full length this February on pretty much the same equipment, although my new mixer is a lot quieter.

Does anyone have any advice, criticisms, or other comments?

Thanks for all of your help,
-MD

Sounds pretty good. Nice drum sounds, and the guitar tone is very cool. Reminds me of a bit later Sabbath. Very cool song. Sounds well recorded. Very clean mix. Cool tune.

Personally, I like it as is. Probably always ways to make it sound different, but as is, I thought the sounds came through well. If you take out some mids, and bring up the low end, it would change the feel of the song. I don't think it would sound as good, as it would be emulating something newer, and this tune is sweet old school. Maybe bring the vocals up just a little, but they don't sound bad where they sit. Bass seems to cut through well. I wouldn't change it myself, but....

Thanks, we did this on an MSR-16 and tracked it using some cheap Peavey live board. There were no direct outs on the board, and it was only 2 buss, so we used the insert patches for outs. Some of the overdubs were made using the preamps from a Tascam 388. It was later mixed with a Mackie 32 channel board.

Nady ribbon mic was used on the vox, SM-57's and 58's on the guitars. Amps on the right are from a Mesa Boogie Single Rect. through a 4x12, on the left it's a Hughes & Kettner solid state combo.

Bass was direct. An SM-57 was used on the snare and on each tom, an AKG D550 on the kick, and Oktava MK-219's for overheads (placed x-y at the top in front of the drumset).

Delay either came from an Alessis Picoverb, reverb was all natural room reverb mic'd in the room next to the control room (aka the basement).

In case anybody cared, he he,

Double tracked rhythm guitar parts are not played together tight enough. The need to be dead nuts on or it sounds sloppy. Other than that, it sounds decent enough.
