Old San Juan

Lots of talent here. Love the guitar work. Nice mix. I think Santana should have developed his own style rather than copying yours :D

Thanks, man. On this tune, the comparisons to Santana are unavoidable--I get that. But trust me, I'm a casual fan at best. I think I've only got on album, a "Best Of," I'm sure. I've seen him once. I love his playing, but I've never considered myself a devoted follower. My goal was to capture some of the feeling of the time I spent in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After working out a satisfactorily latin chord progression, every lead that came out of me just reeked of Carlos. So I went with it!

Really nice Bob. Man, that acoustic intro sounds vaguely familiar... the style... the phrasing... just can't quite put my finger on it. ;)

Not sure why I hear it differently from Ray, but I'd like to hear the bass up a little. Maybe it's personal preference....

Otherwise, great tune. I'm not one for instrumentals, but I always enjoy yours!!!

Don't sue me for copyright infringement! Besides, it kinda reveals how narrow my rut really is!

And I think you may be losing some low end hearing. Ray's right on the bass. I'm sitting in a hotel room, and I just listened to it on my earbuds (no, not cheap iPod earbuds--high end Shure in ear monitors) and the bass is stomping on the acoustic parts. The redeeming part is that the bass has a weird, stand-up acoustic bass like quality that makes it kinda work. I seriously have to go back to the original Cubase project and see what I did to (accidentally) create that bass sound.

And thanks for the listen and the input. I always appreciate hearing from you!
