I've got an older EV RE-20 that I've had for over 20 years. I keep it in its original steel case. Recently, I opened up the case and found the foam around the mike was moist with an oily residue. I had to remove the foam since it was all soiled. The mike seems to work okay, but if I gently shake it up and down, it feels like something is loose and moving up and down inside. Has anyone else had any similar experience?

A couple of months ago I opened up my RE20because of exact the reason as what you are describing as the idea something is loose! In my case the innerfoam was completly pulverised, it was complety gone by time. The coil of the mic is hold by the foam surrounding it, so when the foam is gone, the coil is loose. That's what you're hearing. I solved it by putting in a little strip of foam on the top of the coil. Works like a charme for me!
