Been a player of acoustic drums and cymbals, etc., all my life. In '97 got a TrapKat and an Alesis DM PRO module. They paired well together. Easy to use. Sold the original TK and got a new model and also a Roland module. Worked well together. Went back to acoustics because the sounds were just not real enough for me. Circumstances force me to go back to edrums. Pulled out the DM PRO from storage. Still works great. The Roland? Not so much. The thing is, for just messing around the PRO is fun but, the sounds are not the layered samples of today.
Question. Having bought a couple used KAT modules (top of their lines) and discovering neither will work fluidly with the TrapKat, amazingly enough, if I were to find used Alesis drum modules DM10 and beyond, do they still function with the same kind of architecture as the DM PRO? Will they pair well with the 26 single zone triggers of the TrapKAT or, are they more proprietary today, made to work with typical edrum kits with multi-zone triggers and not enough midi notes to utilize beyond set parameters in each module?
That may seem like a foolish question but, the KAT KT-M1, made by 2Box, only has 15 "channels" containing 31 midi notes and 12 of them are permanently linked together Edge, Bow and Bell, as well as three choke notes. I found I lost trigger possibilities that astound me. Couldn't use the modules.
I know the DM10 and modules beyond have layered sampling of sounds, supposedly worthy of recording fidelity. I'd pick up a used one if I knew they still would pair with the TK as the DM PRO does.
If anyone has any knowledge on that subject, I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks.
