Been out of the announcing business for quite a few years but now that I'm simi-retired would like to learn the new hi-tech way to lay down multiple tracks. I have a Toshiba Satellite1955-S803. I need to know what kind of software I need to do basic voice tracks. I will gradually move up to sound mixing with FX and music. I also need to know how to burn a master(CD or DVD?) I would be greatful for any ideas.

As far as what kind of program you want to use, you have a slew of options. I primarily use ProTools, and I have friends who use Logic, Live, Reason, Cubase, Digital Performer, and various other Cakewalk and Acid type programs. Bottomline - you have TONS of options, all with different pros and cons. What kind of voice work do you plan on doing? What kind of equipment do you have as far as mics, effects, monitors, etc.? What kind of stuff do you plan on doing with mixing FX and music? The more details you give, the more help people can offer :)

Welcome back to the home recording world :D
