Anybody had mics modded recently from Oktavamod? I ordered a mod from them a couple days ago but haven't recevied shipping instructions or responses to my emails. Is he still in bussiness?

yes, not too long ago, and now it's the best mic I have. Good things take time :)

i just got a mic from him that i ordered last week (an oktavamodded mk-012 pe). i know that he was away for a few days because it delayed my mic slightly (a couple of extra days-- well worth the wait). i'm sure he'll get back to you very soon.

Thanks.I'll give it another day before I bug him again.I've heard nothing but great things about his mods.

yeah i'm a repeat customer and i'm waiting for a mic from the sound room, which is going straight to him for another one :)

Steve, I apologize that you haven't heard from me. I'm very much in business and busier than ever. I went away for a couple of days and found I didn't have Internet access at my destination. Your order acknowledgment apparently fell through that gap. Though I haven't seen any other email inquiries. We're on new machines running Vista and sometimes I think the spam filters are too tight and the junk mail folders have to be examined carefully for legit email.

My online shop responds immediately to an order with an automated email that includes our shipping address and phone number. We then follow up with a personal email with modification and return ship dates by the close of the next business day. I say "we" because my wife Meryl handles incoming orders, shop scheduling, shipping, mod follow up and for the past year has been handling disassembly of mics prior to modification. So systems are pretty tight here with good checks and balances usually. Even though you haven't heard from me, the weird thing is your job is on the shop calendar for Monday 8/27 with a return ship date of 8/30 via USPS Priority Mail following burn-in and final test.

Please let me know if you have not received a scheduling email from me by 8pm Eastern on 8/21/07. best, Michael

Good to hear from you.I wanted to combine my first order with another.I'm pretty sure my mics are real Oktavas and not from China.I had a couple questions, so should I email you again or is it OK to ask here?

Sure. I'll provide some quick answers first as other folks sometimes wonder about this.

MK-012: Best source of authentication is here: . The Chinese copies are quite rare and easily identified by the black philips screws on the body.

MK-219: All MK-219 mics were built in Tula, Russia.

MK-319: A very small number of China-manufactured copies exist, the percentage is so small you don't have to worry about it. In the unlikely event I recieve a Chinese 319 I would let the client know before doing any work on the mic.

MKL-2500: Quite a few Russian mics were packaged with Chinese power supplies by the former distributor. These supplies often have a hum problem which can be reduced or eliminated. I have yet to see a Chinese copy of a 2500 microphone.

MKL-5000: Was copied in China but the original was never widely distributed in the US so it is unlikely to be seen in its copied form.

Hope this helps.

hey michael, while you're on the forum, any thoughts of ever modding the 220's? an oktavamodded multipattern mic would be awesome :)

Great. The mod I ordered was for the Mk 319.The Mc 012-01 I also want modded has the -10db pad,the metal holder, the same case,no black metal screws, has dimpled contact pins, but no serial#.I would guess it's real even though mine doesn't fit either profile exactly. If that sounds right I can just order the Mc-012 mod from your site and send both after I get shipping details from you tomorrow.

No serial number usually means that it is more that a couple of years old unless you see some other signs. If it's an old import into the U.S., I'd imagine it also says A.S.M.
