I just returned after doing some day after Christmas shopping and I was in one of my local Guitar Centers picking up a few things (Here in Commack, Long Island, NY) and they have a jam packed case full of 319's at $50 each (you don't have to buy two, that's the price for one). I picked up another one, I didn't really need it, but couldn't resist the price. Check it out. It may only be for today, I don't know. That's the Mk319 NOT the 219. They're usually about twice that price or more.

Me too! I went down to pick up one at $99 with my GC gift certificate, and when he went to ring me up, it came up at $49.99.

So I got 2. :D :p

I guess I'll have to try 'em as drum overheads as well as vocals.

Nobody in that store knew about it until that moment, I guess they didn't get the memo.

They had no idea how long the price would be good for either, but they had plenty in stock.

Now I need a couple shockmounts.

My floor's too creakey, and the mic's too sensitive.

GC never seems to have them in stock.

The Oktava MK-319 shockmounts are absolute trash, and wildly overpriced. I explained why in a thread a while back.

If you can, rig up something else.

Good luck.

Some of the MXL shock mounts work great. I think it's the same one as used on the 67G, but don't quote me on that.

output on mk319?

... i decided to go down to GC and try out the mk319's that are on sale for $49.99. i tried out three, one had problems (bad cable input), and the other two sounded fine. i picked one out, and figured, for less than the price of a sm57, if it worked even for a year, i'm still ahead. when i tried it out at home, i was pleasently surprised by how nice, smooth, and fairly neutral it sounded. my question is, could someone give me some perspective on how much output these mics typically have. i know that is also determined by the mic pre's (all i have here at home is a vtb-1), but it seems like the output might be a little low for a ldc.
any thoughts?
thanks - jv

I picked up two "blems" at the MF clearance center by me for $60 two weeks ago. I've loved them. They have been really good on male vocals so far.

I'd be pleased to see what others say. I haven't really given this much thought, aside from having tested the two I have and found their outputs very nicely matched in the frequencies I used. Presumably, this means that they are putting out however much grunt they are supposed to have.

I imagine there's a spec page somewhere that'll have figures one can compare to those of other microphones.

That's their reputed strong point. Still, is anyone but me amused at the idea of a blem Oktava? :)

Strikes me as sort of like that blem Relic Stratocaster someone posted a link to a while back!

I see the irony for sure. These are quite visibly blemished. The mesh screens over the capsules have some sizable dents in them. I went through a few and got the least dented. So far both are sounding really good so I'm not going to complain. I'm very interested in using them as an overhead, my rooms have low (7') ceilings and I get a really sizzly sound out of the mk012s on drums.

... so, upon talking to a few guys at GC, and a friend that owns an mk319 as well... the verdict is, that these mics definitely have a bit of a lower output than most of your LDC mics. i'm not saying mine isn't useable, cuz it actually sounds pretty good, but you might need a little more juice from your mic pre's to get them up to level.

My connection at GC says he can hook me up for $20.00 each, is that still wildly overpriced to you?

What would I "rig up"?

I know what you mean though, about them being trash, at least as far as opening them up to put the mic in (I remember working with a newer one a few months back.)

But are you saying they don't do the job of isolation properly too?

I don't really care about how awkward it is to get the mic in and out, as long as the isolation from vibration is happenning.

If I'm better off with an MXL shockmount, I'll check Sam Ash(which BTW, I hate even more than Guitar Center)

Thanks
