Oktava MC 012 omni capsule

Santa stopped by the SoundRoom on his way down from the North Pole, and brought me an Oktava MC 012 omni capsule. I just put it up in front of my Martin D15, and just let me just say, OH MY GOD! I liked those mics before, but now it's love. A mahogany Martin in a redwood and knotty pine room, with that mic and omni capsule.....it's shweet. No proximity effect, and a much more open sound than the cardioid capsule. Anyone who has one of these mics should definitely invest $60 for an omni capsule from the Soundroom. It's like getting another mic. Cheers, RD

Good discovery, RD! Omnis are underutilized in home studios. Many folks are afraid their rooms don't sound "good enough" to use an omni - but for close mic'ing, the ratio of direct to reflected sound is large enough that the room doen't matter that much.

Overheads? guitar cab mic ?
