I don't have a line in on my computer......i only have a mic input which i know goes into a cheap soundcard...my question is
i just ordered a sp b1 and a vtb-1 pre amp...will i be able to use
these on my computer? because i read in another trend that you are sapposed to plug the pre amp into the line in not the mic in...so what am i sapposed to do now.?

Thanks

i think it'll work. why not give it a try. you may have to get a new sound card though, which might not be a bad idea. a crappy sound card will create crappy recordings. there are quite a few decent cards for $100-$150 that will improve your audio quality immensly.

yeah...

well this was just brought to my attention....i think i found a line in but it was in front of my cpu? i haven't ever noticed it before but there is an extra usb port and a 1/4 inch hole next to it so i think that this is my line in...i am hoping so because for a minute there i was worried because i just order that stuff this morning and then when i was looking at the back of the cpu i didn't see any extra slots so i became nervous..but hopefully this one i found in front is what i'm looking for . thanks for the reply

If you put like a 30db pad on a mic input it [for all intents and purposes] turns into a line input...

Best of luck.

I'm guessing the jack on the front panel is really 1/8 inch, not 1/4 inch, and probably is a stereo headphone jack. (I've never heard of a 1/4 inch jack being used on a computer, so please enlighten me if I'm wrong about this.) FYI, many sound cards use a standard color scheme for the I/O connections: red is a mic input; green is a line/headphone output; blue is a line input.

Are you sure there's no line input? If there isn't, you really ought to get a new soundcard. You should be able to disable the onboard sound using the BIOS setup utility. Cross that bridge when you come to it, though.

Learn something new everyday Fletcher!!

This will help with my in-field BS, laptop recordings.

Thanks

If you sprung $225 or so for your mic/preamp, you can spring another $139 for an M-Audio Audiophile or MobilePre. Until you get a better soundcard, you will not be able to do any serious recording.

yeah i'm sorry

it is a 1/8 inch in the front bottom of my computer...and as far as the back of my computer there isn't a line in...i promise you on that one. and as far as the front one it's not the typical headphone jack that is normally right next to the cd drive this one is was down the bottom and next to it are two extra usb jacks...so i'm not sure if this one will work? and as far as the sound card i would def like to buy one but the computer i'm using isn't mine but my parents and i don't want to add things to there computer because i am getting a new one as soon as my home owners insurance give's me the money for my stolen computer.
Thanks for everything guys,
