Okay, one of my own

Well, since I'm runnin' around everywhere on the BBS, I thought I'd post something of my own. This is two years old, and I was recording directly through the built-in MPs on my Fostex back then, and mixing using the built-in board. The quality ain't too much to write home about. I've learned a LOT since then.

I transcribed, learned, and recorded it over a weekend as an exercise... and promptly forgot how to play it. It was fun, and I hope I didn't butcher it too badly. My own criticism is that is sounds like I learned it over a weekend. There are lots of spots that scream for better articulation, and I just plowed through the best I could. It's okay, I know I'm a hack.

Anyway, you can visit dreaming_polecat at www.iDrive.com ... it's "songof.mp3". Oh, the name is Phil by the way... pglewis is just so I don't have to rememeber a dozen different user names on different forums.

Tried and failed. Each time I tried to download it, I got the message "this document contains no data". Poo.

Having been through the ringer at freedrive, i-drive, x-drive and JustOn, I always test D/L a new piece before posting in the clinic.
Sometimes even this doesn't help!

Okay, I deleted it and uploaded again. I think it should work now. Dang computers.

Hey you play well.....it wasn't as rough as you think...fingers flyin' everywhere...I could never learn a tune like that, my rhythm guitar skills are even on the lower end of the musical ladder.....great playing....and the sound was good too...gibs

PG, all my stuff is way over two years old so don't sweat putting up old stuff. Sounded good to me. You style reminds me of the guy I record, John Shank. Same amazing fingers!

Layth

That's one helluva transcriptional exercise!
Sounded great.
You can sure pick that thang.
Who was the composer?
Tell me this was two tracks or I'll be tempted to burn my guitar.....

Gibs: the sound was okay, but I hear some of Sonus' stuff and dream of that clarity *mind starts wandering...*

Layth: That's not really my general style... though nothing really seems to be. I'm all over the map. Can't seem to stay in one place very long (and rarely finish any of my own stuff for that reason).

Dr: It's Rimsky-Korsakov. I always loved that piece. Oh... heh... yeah, that would be cool if I could do that with one track. I wanted to do it strickly as a "duet", but there is a third guitar in spots.

Make mine a double

Finally got the file, idrive is pretty screwy somedays.

Anyway, like this a lot! Big fan of of this style. A refreshing change to hear stuff like this. Great work and playing!

Emeric

Nice one. I like tunes like this a lot. Makes me want to get my acoustic out of the closet and try recording some stuff with it.

Well I finally got it! I was visiting some guy named "Phil"'s account. Oops! Anyway, I got it and I love it. It sounds great. You're a hell of a player.

Thanks for all the compliments!

I just got an e-mail from i-drive today:

quote:
Over the past few weeks, you may have experienced problems accessing the
files in your i-drive. Please accept my personal apologies for this. I have
written this e-mail to tell you what we are doing to get back to great
performance.

They're upgrading soon, and imposing a 150M daily DL limit in the interim. Hopefully the glitches will work out.

ametth: I recorded that one in a room that's roughly 6'x10'... all hardwood floors. I only use that room for storage, lately. Some of the "room sound" is probably 'verb from my DigiTech. I'm sure it would have been more present if I'd had anything besides my "Kustom" mic back then. I didn't write it... the composer was Rimsky-Korsakov. I have an affinity for Russian composers.

I can't even get onto the iDrive site this morning... ??? Is it down? I'll try again this afternoon...

just listened, how big is the room you recorded in? I think is sounds really good, but could use some more presence. I hear alot of "room" as it stands.

But I really dig the music alot! Did you write this piece?
