i just want to get this right and get your feedback

i record hiphop vocals..right now thats it..i have a DMP3 preamp and a shure sm7b mic. I also have a pair of m-audio BX8's. i am also about to buy a control surface for my software. Im still gonna need a soundcard right?

i am looking at the delta 1010lt..but does it have a breakout box..i know it has way more inputs then i need..but its really not that expensive and i dont wanna upgrade later...what do yall think of this card..my headphones and my monitors both have 1/4" plugs so will i be able to hook that up the card fine?

so basicly is the setup alright mic > preamp > soundcard > pc > control surface > monitors/headphones...is that about right?

thanks a lot guys

agg...so i think the 1010lt doesnt have a breakout box? plus i noticed it has mic preamps..sinse i already have one can i get around that?...

also i kinda wanted to upgrade my software (adobe audition) to maybe protools.cuz audition is starting to piss me off..any thoughts on what kinda soundcard would let me do that (software can only be run with there hardware)

or in general..what kinda soundcard would you guys recomand that has a breakout box and is good for my purpose..

now that i look at it maybe a delta 44 is what i need?

any suggestions welcome..thanks

yeah i read all that and some...that just gives the you the nuts and bolts of soundcards..i know all that...now im trying to get specific..good units that have a breakout box..ect.

thanks

Echo Layla for pci or Echo Audiofire fo firewire. Very under rated.

the delta 1010 has two versions one with the box and one without. I have the one with the breakout box. I am fairly pleased with it but is my first and I havn't experienced anthing else. I record using all eight inputs at once and it holds up just fine. I've used 44k and 96k sample rates with it. I run a P4 3ghz 1g mem machine. I've been looking at the RME Multiface II($700-$800) for an upgrade. I hear the king is apogee rosetta 800. But your talking huge bucks or a loan situation ($3000+)

I would shoot for Echo or MOTU rather than M-AUDIO anytime.
M-Audio uses cheap circuitry and cheap A/D-D/A converters.
