So I'm using my VF-80's stereo out into my sound card to get tracks onto n-Track. I've been having crappy luck trying to sync things, but I'll get it precise eventually. The problem is, when I start playback on my Fostex while in n-Track, I see the input meter going, and then, with all other tracks muted, I get an output signal, and I have the same track that's in playback getting spit back at me a fraction of a second later. It's sort of a real nasty echo effect that absolutely shouldn't be there. What gives?

Man, there are sooooooo many steps you have to do to get the signal routing correct. Each sound card is different. But it sounds like you're routing the signal thru N and back to the Output Sound Card. And yes, there's a delay (it's called latency). It's because processing the signal takes CPU time and delays result.

You don't mention which sound card you're using. Better quality cards come with their own Control Panel which handles signal routing. Cheaper cards use the Windows Volume Control panel to handle routing. Look at both Playback and Recording panels to set up the routing.

If you happen to have a SoundBlaster Live, make sure that you're not recording What You Hear. That'll mess ya up.

Ok, so open up Volume Control and look at both the Playback and Recording setups. If you're using the LineIn of your SBLive, then that's what needs to be selected under Recording.

Hope this makes sense. It's actually in the manual, btw.
