Hi...

I have just installed my sexy Juli @ card on my computer and this is what I have.

ESI Juli @ soundcard with balanced in/out
Cool Edit Pro
M-Audio Buddy with balanced in/out
A condenser mic which is OK but also quite budget
Balanced cables xlr-xlr and tele-tele

I noticed after installing my new soundcard that my previous card was unabled. My new Juli @ card has taken over completely. Do I need my other card or is it better just running my better card gor everything?

Because i now have 2 mono outs I was forced to buy some new cables to get stereo in my speakers since it just was one stereo out before.

Is there any tips what to do now, Im totally lost because I have everything but doesnt now how to start. Just to start recording?? any choices I can make in programs thats important for the quality and so on.
This questions sounds so dumb but I feel totally lost

Maybe something I should think of when listening to my recordings or so? haha Im so terrible... dont get angry with me now

There myst be some settings in cool edit for quality etc?

If you've installed the soundcard drivers, make sure you select them in Cool Edit.

Then just plug the mic into the audio buddy and plug that into the soundcard. I'm not familiar with that ESI card. Does it comes with a preamp? If so turn it off.

Press record in cool edit.

You can get free multitrackers if cool edit doesn't do it for you. Tracktion, Audacity, Kristal (?). Just dl them, see which ones you like

I don't there's any pres in that new Juli@. Connect everything up, make sure there's a signal going into the preamp by whacking the gain up til tapping the mic makes the peak light flash. Then you just have to figure out the PC part. I think that in Cool Edit / Audition you can just choose the inputs by on the left part of the main window, on each track. Choose them and then see what happens when you press record!!

Don't worry ... this is the hardest step. If everything works here, you're laughing.

What about recording... Is the mono recording the way to go?
That I record my voice first in mono,and then copy paiste it to the other channel so I get stereo.... and then the same with my acoustic guitar? I record even my guitar with a condenser mic...

Is this the way to go and is it the ordinaryl way to do it?

You record mono sources mono, stereo sources stereo. Which ones are which is up to you. For starters, I'd generally do vocals mono, and guitar stereo if it's by itself, or mono if it's in a mix.
If you record a mono track and pan it center, it will come out both channels. Copying the track and panning does nothing different here. To actually get stereo you need different information in each channel, for example by using two mics and placing them differently. Or by adding a stereo effect like chorus, phase shifting, delay, etc.
