Are mixs ever done? :)
Nope....never. :)
As for the voice...what I missed I don't think had to do with the tonality of your voice. I think you could bump the highs up a bit and that would bring out that sparkle I was missing without you needing to sing differently. Of course if you have a hard time hearing those frequencies it might be hard to know just how much to bump them without it being too much. Something to think about though. Still.............a good song and good sound.

Nice tune! I was kind of reminded a little bit of Cat Stevens. I really liked your harmonies in there, especially the big ending!

The entire mix sounded a bit bassy on my machine, but it just may be my speakers. That would be my only feedback.

I really liked this tune and the vocal tag at the end!

Great job!

Very, very solid lyrics Chris! I tend to pay attention to this aspect of songs and the more verses you have, usualy, the thinner they get. Not so in this song. Solid, moving, poinient and fresh throughout.

The vox tracks are so thick that I can't offer any mix tips but, they are close. I think I just need to listen more (who ever knows the words and gems of a song on the first two listens?).

The instrumental tracks are envied by me and follow the emotion you're creating while adding to the emotion.

Thick song. Got me thinking and feeling.

I kinda wanted to hear one more "Standing my own ground", in a firm single voice in the not to far distance, on the exit fade.

well thought out and built tune.

Hmmmm... much good stuff to think about here....

Lt. Bob: I really should sit down and play with high end content more. I really can't hear it, but it does have artifacts in my range that I can hear. And I know about having a light touch on the EQ. I've been thinking about that quite a bit as my recording skills surpass my hearing skills. :)

Boydrj: Hmmm...that reminds me of something I usually do that I didn't for this mix. I typically cut the low end out of anything that doesn't need it- some guitars, all vocals, etc. I left that all in place because I wanted this tune to sound natural, but the low end accumulation of all those tracks may be adding a bit- even though I don't think it creates any mud.

Also unusual is that I used no compresssion at all in this mix. I just reallized that is a first. There is a little over the stereo master, but just enough to catch the transients. That's kinda cool, I think.

Theron: Ya know, I don't post tunes to troll for compliments, but your compliments sure do feel good. Thanks. "Thick song. Got me thinking and feeling." is probably the biggest compliment you could give me about a song that I wrote. I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

The last "Standing my ground" is a cool idea- something I've never done before. I'd have to rewrite the chorus melody to go over the ending part, but I think I'll give it a try. If I bump the buffers up a little in Cubase I think I can squeeze a few more tracks out... :D

Fed: About the "ess's"- It isn't just you. That's the hearing impairment coming out again. I sometime wonder if I could use a desser in reverse. :)

Take care,
Chris

I just started listening to remix and I like it better already. The main vocal up was great idea. Also I don't know if you cut the low end at all this time, but it sounds much clearer to me now.

What an improvement. That's just great. That line "standing your ground is like dancing with thunder" is realy cool, some people just have a way with words I guess :).

Sorry about the "s" reference. I feel like an "s" now. :)
I tell you though for a guy with a hearing problem you can hit those notes fine, so no excuses there. I don't think you would need a deesser in reverse I think this could be your trademark.

I also listened to "mute" and like it alot. Can't download it though only stream.

cheers

Fed: Thanks for the re-listen. I was pretty sure the remix would be a lot clearer and its good to have some confirmation of that. No low end cuts on this version- one fix at a time, so I can isolate what was really causing the lack of clarity. In this case it was the panning of the backing vocals, along with too much of the same verb (which I just shut off) and the same mic (Antares Mic Modeler to the rescue!)

Nevermind about the "s" comment, too. :) I'm totally cool with it. I'm not the first musically inclined hearing impaired chap- some dude named Beethoven beat to the punch. I didn't even know the extant of my hearing damage until a couple years ago (shrug). Its kind of fun seeing how far I can push it. I don't think my tunes sound bad for what I have to work with. Ears are funny things- people who have ears that work fine and don't USE them can't hear as well people without good ears who do.

Perhaps that's a word of encouragement to those with good ears? :)

Take care,
Chris

Well I think you deserve a little more credit then Beethoven since he could hear everything for part of his life and I think you said you were born this way.

Also I didn't find the mix lacking in hi freq much

cheers
