most of the time i record one input at a time... except when i want to mike up a drum kit or when i use two mikes with my amp to get some nice presence...

so:

a friend has offered to sell me an Audiotrak Maya soundcard which has a preamp mic in and also RCA line in.

with this i could do most of my recording directly into the card using the mic in. when i need more than one input simultaneously i could use my tascam 424 as a mixer and run it into the RCA line in of the card ?? yeah? does this sound viable?

does anyone know anything about these maya cards? what is the quality like?

Yes , you can .

The quality is not good .

By the way , MAYA has been discontinued .

what about an audiotrak INCA 88 (with the break out box and 8/8IO) which i am also looking at buying?

is this a better quality card?

Its discontinued as well. Don't waste your time and money with obsolete hardware.

haha you could be a little more helpful

the fact that it has been discontinued does not necessarily mean that its obsolete.

anyway thanks a lot for your helpful comments brzilliani guess im just not as cool as you.

Yes it does. Try finding updated drivers for it. If something doesn't have XP drivers, I shure as hell think its pretty much useless to me. Do you see XP drivers listed here ? I sure don't. Nevermind the fact that the card will not work with any future Microsoft OS's.

Next time try being a little more polite when people give you feedback. Maybe its because they went through the same thing in the past...

5 second google search gave me this

but hey discontinued implies obsolete....

by the way there is no h in sure.

rock on home boy.

Did you happen to notice the dates on those drivers?

Hey, I guess I can't stop you from buying it so go right ahead and waste your money. No skin off my back...

Its pretty funny how people come here looking for advice, but then ignore it. I'll sell you the 2 cards I went through because I wanted to cut corners rather than just spend the extra money on the Audiophile in the first place. I'll make a great deal for ya...

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it think.:D

"Hey are these any good?... Well actually no, they're not.... But I think they are, so shut up!!"

LOL....

missing the point

i dont know whether the cards are good- i asked for some advice on the quality (eg- sound quality/ bitrates/ anyone with any experience with them etc.).

brzilian said very curtly that they were crap and not to waste my money, and then when pressed said this was because there were no drivers for xp. i realise that the most recent XP drivers are over a year old, but no one has really answered my original question about the cards..

not to worry tho. i guess not many people have much experience with these cards... they dont feature prominently in searches of the homerecording.com archives... they may well not be the best thing available, but im just starting out and thought i might be be a reasonable option in my restricted price range...

cheers.

What's your budget? What soundcard do you have now?

Are you from australia (ie perth WA)? If so, the Terratec EWX24/96 is on sale here for A$350 which is about as cheap as you will get for a decent soundcard. It is very similar in performance to the M-Audio Audiophile. I wouldnt bother going with anything cheaper.

ps: People here are giving you good advice. Consider that your current attitude is likely to make them ignore you.

so audiotrak make bad cards?
No.

They just don't make cards comparable to for example Motu. But it's lightyears ahead a SB Live or Audigy. ;)

The quality of the card itself is good (let's say great), but it's pre.amps aren't the best. I've use an INCA88 for the past year. It gives me some great recordings (but it's not a 24/96-card), but I use a Souncraft F1 mixer for pre.amps. I tried the "onboard" pre.amps on the card and they were disappointing at best.

Allthough I love my Inca88, I wouldn't by one now (now I think I would go for the Terratec ESW88 or Delta1010). As Brzillian said, it's discontinued. But if you do get one,(it's has the best value-for-money rate ever) then don't worry. It has Windows XP drivers, even if Brzilian tells you different :). You just need to know where to look. :) Here it is!

Conclusion:
Get the card if you want. It's a good card. But I don't think you'll see a new driver-version than 3.60...

wow. thanks a lot for the info

pity about the poor pre-amps...

i have been looking at the Terratec cards recommended above- it would seem that they are definitely the way to go but i am still watching an INCA88 on eBay that looks like it will go for a song!

decisions decisions....

thanks again

Get the real INCA88, and not the ADA.008 version... There's a difference. ;)

Search this board for more info.

I AM discontinued. I didn't even hit full production. After finishing one prototype of this particular model they discontinued the program and tried something new.
Maybe there will be some new and improved christiaans/christinas in the future but the original is definately one of a kind.
:D
