yes...If I could i would get the digi 002 or other interface but the real is that I can barely spend 700 or 800 $ on an interface...for us 700$ is what a employee earns in three months of work...so i have to spend as less as I can.

The edirol and layla seem very good equipment and they kinda do the same stuff, though I fell in love with the Q10... Also, I found that the C-port DST2000 from ST Audio, for about 450 $ does the same that all of them...

The Digi 001 would be a good option but....but....but....I can get the Q10 fot the same price and with 8 included pre amps...so that makes me ge rid of the digi.

yes it is one of the mos complete interfaces but...phantom power just in two of the inputs...just for the overheads (when recording drums)... I have thought a lot about it...but befor deciding, do like I have been doing...search more and seek for information...I think, Layla and Edirol are two of the best options as well.

Click on the link two or three replys before this and read what testers have said about the best interfaces...Digi 001, Q10, Layla, Edirol...

I'm still looking ... yeahhh the DST2000 form ST audio...for 450$ you get the same features as the Digi 001

Wrong!!

Here's the scoop right from the Aardvark Q10 FAQ:

"Does the Q10 have phantom power for condenser microphones?

The Phantom Power switch on the front of the Q10 lets you use "condenser"type microphones which are the best of the best when it comes to microphones, usually used for critical vocals or acoustical instruments. These "condenser" microphones cost a little more and need a perfectly matched 48 V Phantom Power supply to keep them working properly. You can use up to four condenser microphones with your Q10 and all four are guaranteed to sound equally amazing. Just hit the button on the front and you‚ve got a truly professional audio interface for any top microphone."

So, it has 4 inputs with Phantom power. Maybe you were confused with the 2 guitar/bass inputs that they have included?

I have the Aardvark DP 2496, and I love it!!

you can bypass the "preamp" portion of the q10s front inputs.

they are, as someone mentioned, 1/4"/XLR inputs...if you turn the gain down to 0 - you effectively turn the input into a standard line input (same as the digi has)..

As for the person who said you could record 18 simultaneous tracks on a digi001 - i'm sure you are referring to something, but in and of itself that statement is bullshit.

I could record 48 tracks to a digi001 - if i had a huge console, and submixed into 8 groups of 6 channels each...

when it goes into the digi001 though, i'm still only going to have 8 tracks at a time to work with - regardless of how many channels or mics i was recording with initially.

the version of pro tools software doesn't matter.

to me the Q10 is a very expandable and great sounding solution. It would be nice if all 8 channels were phantom powered instead of just four, but i rarely use four condensors at a time anyways. And, I have a mixer if I need it. It has a great word clock, and you can have up to 4 Q10s working together at the same time.

If you really needed 32 inputs...I doubt you'd be using a Q10, but the option is there. For project/home studios I don't see where more than 8 inputs is really neccessary - UNLESS you are trying to mix analog.

When I recently talked to a tech at Aardvark he did tell me that you can not fully bypass the Preamp on the DP or Q10. Even w/ the gain @ 0, the signal will still be slightly tainted. (I doubt a home user would even notice)

Aardvark has been a great card for me as well as their customer service (for 3 years now). I have the DP and have thought about getting the LX6 (no pres) to expand w/... but I'm also thinking it's time to upgrade Converters. I think for a home user and someone just getting into a DAW, Aardvark is a great solution... especially the DP or LX6 w/ the onboard EQ & Compression. W/ the DP 24/96 all you need is a microphone and your recording!

Good Luck,
B.

That's the big deal. FInding one that can multitrack 8 channels using as a preamp either a mixer or through software.

OK I found two more:

*M-Audio Delta 1010
*Presonus FireStation

I guess the presonus thing is a bit crappy...but what does its users would say about it...???

As far as mixing in the box, there's a lot to be said for that, but you will still need a mixer in my opinion. I mix using a combination of in the box and external hardware mixer. Mixers are also great for monitoring and routing the many signals you will be using. Many, if not most, people that mix in the computer still have a mixer of some sort.
You can do all of this stuff in the box, if you have the right card. Mixers are not necessary.

No it isn't. The Digi 001 has 8 analog I/O and 10 digital I/0.

Wes -

Too say that a statement about a piece of gear you obviously know nothing about it "bullshit" is pretty funny. Like it's been said, there are 8 analog I/Os and 10 Digital (8 ADAT and 2 SPDIF), and as far as converters go, the Aardvark stuff can't compare to the standalone units you could plug into a Digi 001.

Later,
