Oiling the Neck

I have a StratClone homejob where the back of the neck used to be lacquer, but now only in a few inaccessable areas...I can relacquer the neck, but the damm thing plays so slick I'm thinking to just oil it and be done...Besides, to relacquer means to clean 10 years of smeggy skin residue and dirt out of the wood fiber, lest the lacquer would tent and fall off in chunks...

I've always used boiled linseed oil (make sure it's boiled) over lemon oil, it lasts a lot longer. It's an age old trick in antique car circles to get it into the joints of wooden wheels whenever they're used in desert conditions.....something they got from the wagon days.

Once a year is plenty, the rest of the time a damp cloth and occasional 0000 steel wool is fine. Not much is needed, just rub it in and let it set a few minutes then wipe it down and wait, a little more will bleed back through. Then wipe with a damp cloth and you're good to go.

Well I guess that rules out the raw wood concept for me... :)
