I stumbled across the following link... these mics look an awful lot like MSH's mics. What gives? I think I'm still going to order some MSH10's when he returns from his holiday vacation next week.

It's not a knockoff. The Karmas were developed independently from my mics, mine hit the market a month or so earlier, but there was no copying going on. There are differences in the designs . . . although the Karma had a good idea about the casing that *cough* might look somewhat familiar soon :D ;)

Whew! That's good to know. So when will your mics be available again? Is it next Monday, December 8?

Hey MSH, I noticed your mics made the "Low End Gold" list over at gearslutz.com.

Yes - and they're mentioned more than once too!

Congrats!

Except that it's just some dude wanting people to post gear they think should be considered "low end gold". No more valid than a "What gear do you like" thread on this site, unfortunately.

It's not any sort of official recognition. Plus he's bashing some of the listed stuff anyway, so it just goes to show you one man's trash is another man's treasure...

If there were an official "Best Mic under $200" awards though, I'm sure the MSH would be up there. It's pretty cool that they can stand up favorably to mics 3-4 times as expensive.

You know, I try to abide by the "if you can't say anything nice . . . " rule, but . . .

You want a sticky, read Harvey's thread and learn something about selection and placement.

I'll take our cheap ass bastard vibe over gearslutz any day

PS No, my store won't reopen next week, I'm a little behind as I didn't finish with old orders until Dec. 27, and somehow the Dutch found a link to a two week old cached page and ordered a bunch of mics . . . I just ordered the new PCBs today, they won't arrive until 1/9, then I need to assemble & test . . . probably it will be 1/15. I might partially reopen on 1/8 with the 1 series and the clever devices, and have the 2 series and the tube as "coming soon" :o

You need to teach your children how to solder, or outsource to a 3rd world country. :D :D

Yeah, I counted up the mics I did last year, it was a rather scary number

A person only has so much energy. Raise your prices to a realistic level re their sound quality. Do it in stages but do it.

Thanks for the positive response, you're just a beacon of sunshine aren't you. Point is people on other forums know about and respect MSH's mics. Not that they've won some kind of award.

Right after I buy mine. :D :D :D Seriously, kudos on what you have done. I'm buying two asap. ;)

Last year I focused on keeping costs low by purchasing in increasing quantities (my standard order of components is now 1,000), so I kept my profitability even as component count increased.

Good thing I am an accountant! :)

Woo-hoo-- I gots me some of the last non-Danish, MSH-1O's then :D
I will hopefully gets me some 2's and a 4 before they rise to prices where I can't buy them by budgeting out a few value meals here and there :)

edit: the k-micros are not bad at all at $20 + shipping for a matched pair. not the top of their line by any stretch (i have several of their mics, all of which get regular use-- particularly the tube and the ribbons). i think it's cool that they only kept offering them because of customer demand.
fwiw they also generated a lot of noise on gearslutz and some on the tapeop board.

I can't tell you how hard that made me laugh. :D :D :D

My dad makes that joke approximately 3 times a day, so I chuckled a bit less ;)

I happen to have a pair of the Karma mics, I am very happy with them!

They have a nice clean sound on my acoustic guitar, I can really live with the price.

Someday I want to shell out some money and buy the MSH pair, for right now things are tight. If any mics need to get picked up around here it would have to be a good solid Ribbon mic!

Knock off of the MSH? Nope just another option in that style of microphone.
