Oh...the pain!

Hey, all...just wanted to post a heart-ache that I know you would all understand. I purchased, a year ago, the most perfect acoustic guitar anyone could ever want...a guitar you can call your own! I bought a Larrivee DV05E...have yet to hear another guitar sing like mine...even the same make and model!

Yesterday, I noticed a crack about 4-5 inches long on the bottom, side wood! Oh the pain and agony I felt when I saw it! I have babied this ever since I got this beauty, and I know that I didn't do it! A few people have played the guitar, but none have confessed about banging it or dropping it. It looks repairable, but almost definitely not a warranty covered repair. I know that I should get a professional luthier to seal it or whatever to keep it from spreading. Does anybody know a ballpark figure of how much this will cost me? Do you think there will be any chance on Larrivee repairing it under warranty? It needs surgery real soon. How do you cope? Besides throwing down on anybody who even looks at my guitar?

Every time I look at it...it just hurts!

Have you asked the people who played your guitar to take a polygraph test? :D
 
I moved to Seattle, WA about a month ago...it's hardly ever dry here! I moved from Sacramento, CA...always dry there. I have kept a humidifier in the case ever since I purchased it...I babied it.
 
That's a possibility...I made sure that it was not moving around on my drive up here. It was inside the car with me the whole time. But, then again, I haven't inspected in detail my guitar after the move until last night.

After closer inspection, I noticed a little dent right beneath the crack. I think it was smacked on something...I'm guessing when someone pulled it out of the case, they smacked it on one of the latches.
 
Ball park figure to repair it; $150-$175 or maybe a little less.
I've had the same rush of "HOLY SHIT!!" myself not too long ago. I opened the case to pull out my D-41 and it looked like a cross bow. The head stock had snapped and was standing straight up in the wrong direction. That was $150 repair. Being a Martin I could have sent it to Nazereth and had it repaired free but there's like a two year turn around now for warrenty work. I also have a 1955 000-18 that had a few cracks develope in it and they were repaired for $175.

Years ago the other guitarist in the metal band I was in had a beautiful SG. When we got back from a show once we discovered that the headstock was snapped right above the nut. Turns out the case didn't fit right and it had oviously fallen over or been slammed while loading. Of course, nobody "remembered" anything like that happening. :rolleyes:

He got it fixed, and other that the opaque paint on that part of the neck you couldn't tell any difference.:cool:

And a new case too......
 
I lost one to an angry girlfriend, and one to the post office. I feel your pain.

I'm hip. Had that been mine, a team of surgeons would still be trying to figure out how to get the screw driver out of her ass.

My father and I have a very strict rule about other people even touching our guitars. But I'm a wuss, and I can't tell people no, and one of my friends wanted to try my dad's Jackson bass, and I was like "BE EXTRA CAREFUL" and he was like "no prob" ... then as he went to plug in the lead the smacked the head real hard into the ceiling. That sucked, but at least I knew when it happened.

The worst is when you find something that was obviously hidden. My father has a Norman acoustic, and he was playing it the other day and discovered a dent on the underside of the neck, about where the 3rd fret is, and a deep gouge on the figerboard aswell. We don't know what happened, and no wants to say anything.

When I was younger, a friend of mine was looking at my '78 Les Paul and a piece of dust had fallen onto the body or something, and in an efford to remove it, he pressed on it and dragged it to the side, leaving a long scratch across the body. I don't really care 'cause this one has alot of wear and tear, but it still sucks.

I'd call Larrivee and get their advice. I borrowed a friends Guild 12 string which developed a crack on the top. It was repaired for $50. Sacramento dry? Sure, compared to Seattle but not dry like the desert I live in. Probablly happened during one of those spells of lower humidity. If someone had dropped it I would think there would be a gouge or a chip out of it. Oh, I just saw your comment about noticing a dent...Hmmm

Sad thing for sure, I feel your pain.

Thanks for the recommendation...Mike did an excellent job on my guitar! I can hardly notice the crack. The only thing that is visible on close inspection is where the wood bows out because of the crack. He also installed a strap button for me. The total cost was just a tad over $70. Much less than I expected. Thanks all for your help!
 
Oh, and by the way....

Isn't it cool hanging out there!! I love the way it smells like glue and wood and solder. I love when he invites me back to the shop and you get to see all the guitars in various states of repair.

In fact I was there once when he received a crate full of about 6 guitars that Pearl Jam had shipped from on tour that needed repair. He opened it up and the first thing he pulled out was a Les Paul with the headstock broken clean off.

Haven't had a chance to hang out there yet. I just saw the entrance area. Maybe I'll go back sometime to check it out, but not for the same reason as last time I hope!
