There's always this one, from my old "Aesthetics" course I took as a deluded college Philosophy minor:
"If it needs to be analyzed, it isn't art"
"If it needs to be analyzed, it isn't art"
. . . so art is all about the circumstances that surround the situation. But art must have a line somewhere or else art would just be the passing of exstance? I personally try to keep an open nutural mind, for example: I hate dance music, becuase when I listen to it, it never clicks with anything in my brain. However, I have many friends who produce dance music, having seen what they can achive and how they achive it I have nothing but respect and admiration for them. Is it art? or is it using technology in a creative way? I hate comercial artists, whos goal is fame and wealth, who have been manrufactured to make money. I do not respect these people in any way. to me I wouldnt consider JB or anyone else for that matter an artist, simply because of the intent behind the cover. However, I would consider ballet an art because of the skill, talent and dicapline it takes, eventhough I dont personally respect or like it. Much like moden art, people earn alot of money for creating pieces of nothing, but creating reason behind it. Is this art? But a man/woman who has taken the time to create masterpiece, not the time to paint/make it but every step that they have taken to get to that place, is this art? This brigs me to the point hat is on topic, about the moralities of music, I belive it comes down to intent and pure crcumstance. If you get a beautiful girl who sounds like crap and edit her to sound good, I belive this is immoral becase of the intent to use music to promote a need for fame. But to take a great musician, even a budding mediocore musician, who is driven, dedicated and determined and edit them to sound great, to enhance the end product, I dont belive this is immorale becuase you are making something with 'true' intent.
I hope you understand what I am trying to say.
Yes..I did. And anyone else that wants to say what he did referring to someone's family will be banned.wow true tell me you didnt ban him...that would be fucked??

I thought that had already been established a while back..and understood.
As CFox said in his own words.."this isn't the Cave" and that is where he should have ended his sentence..but oh no, he just had to get that last nasty dig in about the wife and kids...
Even in the Cave, you can't say what he did about a man's family.

dear oh dear true...ive heard/seen far worse...
+1
Then let us know about it.
Greg, the grown ups are having a discussion go play.
.
Greg is always so insightful. I kinda like that he's a bit of an a-hole most of the time.
Oh and BTW Greg, I finally checked out your site and your music is super cool! I especially liked "murder at the drive in".
Thanks. Buy an album, or ten, from the links in my sig.![]()
DEFINITIONS PEOPLE.
Anyone can be an artist, all they have to do is represent something or claim to be representing something using any detectable medium.
Whether they are a good artist is a separate issue.![]()
I don't like most art. Unless one is benevolent beyond the nth degree, it is virtually impossible to like most art. Besides which, the scope of art {given it's hugely wide scope} that even a seeker of art comes across will be relatively small when you consider all the art that exists.I have noticed a common theme in many of the responses.
It goes like this:
I like it = art
I don't like it = not art
The only reason we won't get an answer here is because people ignore the actual definitions of art that there are and substitute them with their own, which to me is as puzzling as saying that if everyone is an artist, then no one is."What is art?" is a question that has been debated countless times over countless years, and I don't think we'll get an answer here.
what all the racist crap ive just read in the cave from one fucking member doesn't equal CFoxes evil doing..
ya hypocrite bastards lol
chili youre a top guy but this place is one corupto piece o crap if you think cfox is a baddy
Sorry I missed this earlier....
I've said it many times, I don't really care what goes on in the cave, but please leave other family members out of it. Calling out a guys wife and daughter is over the line and that is what got CFox banned. In the past, I think CFox has been annoying, but not anymore so than anyone else in the cave. In the on-topics, I don't think he was outstandingly rude.
As for being a mod, we try to be fair and impartial, but without hard and fast guidelines, we go by what we feel is right. In this case, I think True did the right thing and I would have done the same if she hadn't beaten me to it.
In other reported posts from the cave, sorry, I don't see anything worth taking action on. I'll look at them again, but, it's the cave....
On-Topics are a different story. If I missed something there, please let me know.
Thanks,
...I actually quite enjoy the place despite these perceived problems
The art of writing well includes spelling.![]()
It's less about the circumstances, IMHO, and more about intent.. . . so art is all about the circumstances that surround the situation. But art must have a line somewhere or else art would just be the passing of exstance?...
This is an argument/tactic that says "I'm afraid to commit, to draw a line." No, a baby isn't an artist. Again, it's about intent and skill. My daughter draws pictures that are beautiful (for her age) and show a lovely view of the world. But she's not an artist. She draws, it's beautiful to me, but no one in their right mind would put it in the Louvre. But I could likewise say a plumber who has a knack for fixing people's pipes (a skill), or a baby screaming (conveying an emotion), or a billboard designer (appreciating the visual) or a news anchor (conveying a message) are all artists too.
Maybe some people take that line, but I don't think most here are. I am not really a fan of opera. In fact, it plain annoys me. But I can appreciate the skill, the artistry, and the passion involved."What is art?" is a question that has been debated countless times over countless years, and I don't think we'll get an answer here.
However, I have noticed a common theme in many of the responses.

Dumb idealists? Because I don't believe your view. You can say that there is no art, but at the end of the day you have songs that move you. They can move you to anger or joy, doesn't matter. They move you. You can talk like your this bad-ass that doesn't care about anything, but your not. You bust your ass to make good recordings because you want the music presented in a stong and appealing manner. If there is no art, then you wouldn't be doing what you do.You "grown ups" are dumb idealists.
