Looks like I've been living right! I was tracking my friend Wendy on Sunday. She's a poet and a professor, a specialist in Old English and Middle English. Her dad died recently. He was a classical and jazz musician, and her mother and Wendy want to give me his whole mic collection, over 40 mics. I haven't seen the collection yet, but it contains "a couple of funny looking square sticks that say Sennheiser" and "2 in boxes that look like giant contacs and say RCA". That's a certified Holy shit!
I've decided to do the right thing, and I'm having the whole collection shipped to Wendy and I'll give them an honest appraisal before they do something stupid. I think the old guy was hiding his money from mom in his mic cabinet. It's painful, but I won't rob the old lady or my friend. I'll just take the square sticks, thank you.-Richie

Richie, it doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong by accepting them either. Outsider looking in here though, so you must get the feeling that doing the right thing is giving them back.

Cheers to your generous nature!

Yea, Richie. You are doing the right thing. Be a friend first.

Oh man, just send your conscience on a vacation for a while and go for the throat before it's too late, oppurtunities like this don't come around often.

Hey Clit, any tips as for what to do when conscience comes back from vacation?

you are a fine human being richard.
if the whole world was like you it would be a great place.
never let the dark side win !

I'd be saying something along the lines of.........

"I'm extremely happy to take these off your hands if that's what you want, and I'll put them to very good use. But I think you should first be aware that you possibly have $XXXXX sitting in that box. It's up to you whether you still want to give them to me."

And then just see what they say.

Accept them.

I don't think you'd be doing anything wrong in accepting them, either. They'd like you to have them. I'm assuming the family isn't short of a shilling anyway. If you still feel guilty about it, take charge of them, make good use of them on the understanding they can have them back whenever, which is pretty unlikely. Good for you. Keep us posted of what mics there are and how they all sound.

You got it, Mark. If they want to give me these mics after an honest appraisal, honor will have been served, and you can be sure Wendy's money won't be any good here for a very long time. I didn't say I wouldn't accept the gift. I said I wouldn't take advantage of an ignorant grieving old lady and her lovely daughter. I''m also offering to help sell any and all of the mics they decide to part with, and I don't doubt one of those RCA's would cover me for the next ten years of dedicated service. I think some of the mics are just vintage collector's pieces, and some are just good old cheap dynamics, but mixed in with them there may be a couple of C414EB's, and an old C12 or two. This is going to be fun. Either way, I get to track with these mics for a month or two, and I assure you, they will need a thourough appraisal...-Richie

Sounds to me like you need no advice whatsoever. I'm with you on the "Holy Shit"

You're a great guy. Tell you what. Send me those old obsolete RCA thingies and I won't post those pictures of you with the glow-in-the-dark boxer shorts :-)

Accept the mics, use what you like.

Sell the rest.

Take the money and donate it to a children's music foundation in his (Wendy's dad's) name.

Send Wendy the notification from the music foundation.

Make everyone happy and keep your karma intact while helping some kids find creativity and balance through music.

guess we've all had "evil homer" whisper in our ear before.............eh.Well done mate.

but...RCA's...C12s...40 mics...???

what the hell did i do wrong!!! :(

:D

Richard, you're a great guy, hope to meet you next spring.

RCA huh? Hope they're PB31's, there are only six of them known of.

Peace friend!

When you get them post a list for us to see. I'm really curious to see what they could be. I mean, you could be talking about 50,000 dollars worth of mics if a lot of them are vintage tube or ribbon mics.

What an amazing chance, I'm green with envy man. :)

Wow ... nice one Richie ... I've no doubt you deserve it! Send me some leftovers!

Denial can be a wonderful thang!

Anyhow, looks like Richard's gonna stay honest, but for how long? Once he gets a taste for some of those mics and finds out their true value after appraisal, who knows what might happen, what might go missing? Wink, wink. Muuuaahahaaaa....
