rather electro-NIN for a christian song/

not really my genre, but very well done anyway/

Mixmkr,

Wild and huge as always. The synth guitars sound isn't working for me. What were you using. Sounds very directy-grainy (Technical term). But all the the other stuff is cool. The vocals growl. Kewl. Lots of layers happening. Huge!

Hey by the way. I have been working on the mixes of those songs that you checked out a while back. Per your suggestions, I Stereo-d things up a bit and gave the lead guitar a bit more front stage. I'll post the tunes when I get a little more time. Good job on your tune.

I think almost everyone owes it to mixmkr to listen to and comment on this piece.

Mixmkr gives helpful, unwatered-down and lengthy reviews here every day.

Mixmkr, even before I listen, I know it will be good.

what can I say:

Its great. THe instrumentation is so talented. I wish I could tweak and tweeze percussion like you.

I'll comment on the mix in the morning when I can listen louder. Its sounding good though.

Very BIG sounding. I agree on the rhythm crunchy guitar. It has that "direct send" sound. But that's an extremly small criticism. Very cool soundscape.

thanks for the listen, guys...I know it must have been late....or really early...

Fangar, the guitar is direct in, with a strat thru a pro co rat. It is also blended with a heavy sawtooth wave sound on the roland keyboard, and thus, the more of a synth sound....and the "grainy sound" you hear. The pro co rat can rip your head off, when you really crank it....volume wise....which is what I always do when playing...and I guess I get carried away and lose sight of the tone I'm getting. I never really listened to this song 'quietly'

hey dude,

I'm listening with an extremely bad hangover so please bear with me.... I will post additional comments when I'm not throwing up as much...:D I just had to get some quick ones in from the get go...

First of all, cool tune! I like the way it pushes..... I'm having trouble making out some of the words though..... Are you saying "were pilots??" If so, that's cool. If not, I'll pretend that's what your saying...:D This is probably your heaviest song yes?? I like how your showing that whammy who's boss!... Have you ever listened to 'Rob Zombie'??? Probably not, but this song, and your voice has some similarity's....except he sings about negative stuff....

I like that outro organ too... yeah this is one of your best songs IMOP..... I would like to look at the lyrics......post them please.. I'm going to save my negatives about this one...........................................................until later :D

I'm going to listen to it a few more times before I post my negative thoughts...... or maybe I won't bother. It really is one of your cooler works for sure.... This song never got boring.... there's a lot of interesting sonics happening... Nice solos....

I will be putting up the new version of that other song in a few days, I took your suggestions but I wound up redoing the whole song..... the guitar solo alone took 100 takes! :D really...

I'll be back...... 'stop staring at me!'

great job dude!:D

thanks sabb...."jus roll...another one...jus like da other one...." have an egg in a beer...that'll make you feel better....or wish you were dead:p

thanks for the listen...

here are the lyrics...

Yellow Brick Road

Intro~
You may hear the drums,
But I am telling you now,
Don't follow the yellow brick road.
'Cause it's only a dream
And it's not what it seems.
You keep listening
Like you're at a show.

V1~
Stop staring at me.
Let yourself go, you're gonna be free.
Quit hiding behind that tree.
Grab my hand and come with me.

Chorus~
We'll fly, I know the way,
Lost Pilot.
Come fly and hold on to me,
Lost Pilot.

Interlude~
You many hear the drums,
But it's only a dream.
You keep on listening,
But it's not what it seems.

V2~
I believe that you see.
One with God, now you're free.
You chopped down our tree,
And you hold out your hand to Thee.

Chorus~
Let's fly 'cause we know the way,
We're Pilots.
Let's fly 'till another today,
We're Pilots.

Dude, that was an awesome listen.

My only comment is to agree with bsabbath in that I was having trouble understanding the lyrics. Very huge mix, and I really like the guit the way it is, its just part of this great big beautiful sound...

Awesome

Love it Bro! Been wonderin who was doing this great stuff since I first found out about NWR in Late Feb.

Great song! Great Mix! My favorite is "Trust In The Lord," though. ;)

Adding it to my collection of Y'all's Tunes. "Judas" is great too!

Your wife or whoever the singer/storyteller is on Trust and Judas does a great job also.

Thanks for blessing us with these tunes, Bro.

I have one of those Rats Lying around. Pretty fun littl stomp. I heard the sawtooth synth loud and clear. It does not ruin the song in any way though, just an observation.

cool lyrics.... I was close... I dig the jungle vibe in the intro....

very cool tune:cool:

I'll be back later with the negs..:D

Yup- I'll 23'rd the opinion that this is wonderfully huge mix. :)

Something I noticed- just after chorus 1 (3:30) the extra guitar that comes in is a little too loud. Its a bit jarring.

The vox are a bit too garbled for me, but they fit the character of the tune.

Cool tune- I like the lyrics and the feel.

Love the hugeness of it!

well..that's two posts without a scuffie from you....must be no negs then.....eh?? ...eh?....eh???:D :D

Took a listen to this earlier, and I dig the ambiance of it. Very cool sound you got there. I couldn't really make out much of the vocals, but that kind of added to the overall sound, almost like the voice was another instrument instead of a prominent feature.

Good job!!! There is some great Christian rock out there (All Star United is cool as is PFR). Your stuff sounds different than either one of these, and I like that it isn't as typical.

It has a huge sound!!! Keep up the good work!!!

hey man,

My favorite thing about the song, is the complexity of it, the multi parts, a huge intro before the vocals come in.

I like how the drums slowly enter in at the beginning, reminds me of a New Order song (Temptation?).

Don't like the wind chimes at the beginning, the beginning synth sounds too New-Agey for my tastes.

Don't like the whining whammy guitar, sounds too butt-rock-like for my tastes.

Love the guitar/keyboards sounds, real tuff sounding.

The chorus rocks, my favorite part.

The vocals need more presence, kill the reverb on them, maybe double them, sing closer the mic, or all of the above. I just imagine them being really up front.

4:40- enter wind chimes again, blehhhh.

The guitar seems to fit well later on in the song, guess I just didn't like it at the beginning.

Maybe, a little mastering could be done on it overall. I know this is pre-master, but it could use a little more punch.

Hope this helps, a lot of this is just my taste.

I'll get the negatives out of the way first:
1:I just didn't dig the way the vocal came across! For my taste,It should have been an octave higher(believe me,I understand the problem that this might present)and sung without the raspiness!
2:To me,the drums sounded like part of the synth patch.I would recommend using separate drum software(I like PCDRUMMER),or some different patches,if you can do that w/your setup. At least on the snare. It needs a little more crack to it.
3:The intro before the vocal sounded a bit long.
Now the positives(which by far outweigh the negatives).
1:The quality of the sound was just SUPERB!God,I'd like you to do some synths for me
2:The combo of lead guitar(I have'nt heard the words"Pro Co Rat" since the 80's)and synth sounded wonderfull to me!
3:The song,w/the exception of the overly lengthy intro, was very well structured and interesting!

A high quality piece of work, that I have a few artistic differences with.
