I'm trying to get my husband a setup going here in time for Christmas. I want him to be able to burn his music on cd's. I know he has a 4-track (TASCAM TEAC Pro Division 414 Portastudio) but I don't know where to go from there. We also have cakewalk (which is not yet downloaded) and a really good soundblaster soundcard (don't know which one).
My question is this: What do I need to get the tapes he records from the 4-track onto the computer? And, can I directly link the 4 track to the computer? And, is there some kind of adapter that allows cassettes to be recorded directly onto the computer?

The most basic setup is to connect the output of the 4-track to the line-in of the soundcard.

4-track -> soundcard line-in -> sound recorder program -> CD writer.

For sound recorder... even the basic sound recorder software that's come with the soundcard is good enough.

Off course, if you have cakewalk, steinberg or wavelab, you can do some sound editting....

Does your husband's PC has a CD writer? if not, that will be the one thing you should get! :)

If he does have, sounds like he has what he need.... of course you still can get something to improve the system. :)
