I've looking at acoustic guitars for the past couple weeks
(sub US$1000) and haven't been satisfied with anything I've tried.

Until today...

I tried a Taylor 314ce. Both unplugged and pluged in this thing sounded great. Really great.

Too bad it costs nearly US$1300 and I probably won't be able to find it much cheaper than that unless I leave the country.

Opinions on Taylors anyone?

Taylor's are excellent guitars.

As always, individual guitars will vary, and the usual general rule applies:

'You get what you pay for' i.e the more expensive guitars (up to a point) have better quality wood and are better made. After that, it becomes about how much inlay, quality of hardware etc.

Try to find a used (not abused) one. You will be able to get a higher-quality instrument, and if you're not comfortable judging for yourself, you should be able to find a reputable dealer near you.

If not, you can buy used online at:

http://www.gruhn.com
http://www.mandoweb.com
http://www.elderly.com

I have had dealings with all three of these stores, and they all have excellent reputations as great places to do business.

They ship on an approval basis - so you can get the guitar and play it for a day or two to see if you like it, and all it costs is the shipping if you decide to return it.

They will also be happy to answer any of your questions about individual guitars that they have listed.

Email me if you have nay more questions or concerns. You really can get a great guitar for a lot less than you think.

I have 314ce and it is an great guitar. I payed just 1000.00(US) for it. You can't go wrong with a Taylor.
BTW, are you guys in Tieland the ones that invented the stupid tie? I had to wear one once and I about choked to death.

Try buffalobrosguitars.com

They have a huge selection of Taylors, and their store is right here in San Diego where Taylors are made. I think they will have the best price, but I could be wrong.

In the same price range, I like Larrivees.

Heres my advice....
save just that little bit more....if your that close to gettin a Taylor dont back out now..and GET IT:D

Yeah. I think I'm gonna try to get enough money to get the Taylor. It's by far the best guitar I've tried in the past few weeks. It may cost twice as much as some... but it sounds 10 times better.

Although, buying online isn't really an option for me because when they mail it to me I will get slapped with a huge customs tax. It would probably be the same if I just bought it locally. But thanks for the advice!!

Man, I'm seriously hurting for a 514ce... have been for quite a while. Now they come out with that Doyle Dykes model where each string has it's own pickup. I just have to tell my wife "It's an investment"... lol.

Just make sure she doesn't tell you to turn over the dividends...
