Be real apl, One guy comes on hear thinking out loud about banning people for posting dumb advice, well intentioned or not and you seize on it as the new direction everyone thinks we should take.

No, I'm trying to make a larger point. AKEX was banned because andyk gave ridiculous advice in the on-topic forums, if I understand correctly, right? It wasn't for posting in the Cave, correct? Well, lots of users give ridiculous advice. The nice things about andyk's posts were that they were obviously not worth much. The post I linked to above was a guy giving bad advice, but a newby wouldn't have any clue. So people who sound good giving bad advice are a real danger to those who come here looking for good information.

You betcha. My rule of thumb: if you don't want to be called an asshole, don't act like one.:D I've been called one here MANY times, and on every occasion, they were absolutely correct. I don't hold grudges, I move on. It's the interwebs.

I don't hold anything against anyone. I take music seriously, and when trolls and parasites want to ruin it, I'm going to speak up. It's unfortunate that the idiots couldnt keep that nonsense in the cave, but that's why they are idiots in the first place.

Nobody "HAS" to use the cave, that's not why they sought out this forum. If people think that "lol gay serrisly" is funny there, so be it. Personally I find paint peeling to be much more interesting, it's a tired joke those idiots were doing.

The music forums are MUCH different. For people to ruin them is unnacceptable. It defeats the purpose of this forum.

OK, maybe I missed something for reals. I thought they were banned for two reasons. First, because they annoyed people in the Cave. Second, because they posted bad advice in the on-topic forums that might drive new traffic away. Seriously, if it's more than that I missed it. I'm not playing dumb here.

And I appreciate you remembering that, and our friendship, a lot.

Allow me to show you the difference. Here are two examples.

NUMBER ONE:

A. Use egg cartons.

NUMBER TWO:

For the record, I've been fortunate enough to play with some of the best musicians in the history of mankind. Itzhak Perlman used some fingerings that I would yell at a student for doing, just stupid. How did it sound? Great.
I recently played with one of the great violin teachers of all time, a respected teacher worldwide but someone who rarely plays in public. God awful, absolutely horrible player.


Musical rules can be broken on occasion. If someone like Itzhak Perlman can use stupid fingerings, it's the equal of using egg cartons. The only rule that cannot be broken IMO is being a sensitive musician. Acting like a parasite and saying "lol seriusli" 50 times a day is not a rule, it's a troll. I know you can see that.;)

You know exactly what happened and why and you know exactly what you are doing and why.. Trying to play a game of "well he's doing the same thing why don't you ban him?" is the sort of stuff my kids are just growing out of and the oldest is not yet eight.

Get over yourself and stop playing with it. Its history and all you are doing is picking at scabs.

OK I'll play mainly because my wife has devoted 30 years to working with kids with Aspergers and full on Autism.

No, on that count DavidK put it very well. There is a difference from posting incorrect answers or information and posting deliberate gibberish to provoke a reaction. They were also flagged about that. Re read Davids post he put it very well.

If you cannot understand the essential differences here and you consider it may be down to you having a position on the Aspergers spectrum I suggest you need to seek out the help of your OT, personal councillor or speech and language therapist. Either will be able to provide you with the tools to resolve the conflicts between you and the social norms of the board.

If it sounds as if I am being flippant, OK. If you truly do have Aspergers to that degree I apologise unreservedly. If however you are making light of a very serious condition that is a different issue.

OK, if y'all think andyk was being maliciously provocative and vandalous and intended on making people mad, then I understand. But I really think he was a weird kid being weird in his own innocent weird way not trying to cause trouble. It reminded me a lot of me and the LOL thing and the all haiku all the time phase at RP. And I have a very soft spot in my heart for misfits because I am one.
